Playing alone is only half the fun compared to playing with others. After all, you can experience much more in guilds, groups, or as a duo! But are they always the same faces you have around you in video games, or do you happily switch it up? We at Mein MMO would like to know from you: Do you always play with the same people?
MMOs are not one-man shows. You inevitably encounter other people, whether as teammates or opponents. While some you may never want to see again, you enjoy staying in touch with others.
But perhaps you’d rather do your own thing? Then it’s perfectly okay to play with randomly assembled people.
And every day the marmot greets
Connections to other people in games develop over time and gain dynamics when you start a new game:
- You often start in a small circle: alone or as a duo, taking your first glimpses in a new game.
- Later, regular groups of players join in, with whom questing or fighting together has proven successful.
- The pinnacle of it all could ultimately be a clan or a guild. Then, of course, it’s always the same people you surround yourself with, perhaps interrupted by occasional solo ventures.
This strengthens the bond, and you start to feel at home in the game! It becomes close-knit communities that sometimes even meet offline and enjoy a great time together!
On the other hand, it is of course also possible: You bring real-life cliques into the virtual world and continue your hobbies there as a group.
New puzzle pieces every time
On the other hand, playing can also be an oasis where you can simply detach from others. You don’t necessarily need deep communication; just playing with or against others can suffice. It can also be incredibly fun to get to know new people consistently and not commit to other players.
Or you are already in a fixed community but keep playing with others within it. Whether it’s because you have yet to find the perfect gaming partners or because the guild is simply so large or the gaming times so irregular that you often end up with different players.

For me, it’s absolutely different. While I really enjoy playing with people from my real friend circle and with my husband, I also like wandering around as a lonely wolf and getting to know new people. I would find it boring in the long run to always play with exactly the same people. Unless it’s my cat. As you can see in the picture, she is always allowed to play along.
In the past, nothing happened without my World of Warcraft guild. Together we played new games, rocked the raids and battlegrounds, and chatted in real life about the games and tactics. A fantastic time with always the same faces!
