Collecting merchandise is highly prevalent in the Monster Hunter World community. In this article, our author Larissa wants to show you her favorite handmade pieces.
I have been an absolute Monster Hunter fan for years. Players have always collected figures, knitted socks, or used ironing beads to present their results on Reddit. Since the release of Monster Hunter World, the hype has only grown.
My partner and I have not been spared from this either. Besides purchased merchandise from Monster Hunter, we also have handmade items. One consists of Lego building blocks. Additionally, I have two crocheted monsters.
The Crocheted Cucumber and Its Friend Dodogama
A good buddy of mine crochets figures. He is always looking for new challenges and was excited about the idea of making me a Deviljho. Said and done: Now the “Cucumber” stands as my absolute favorite piece from Monster Hunter in our living room. On top of that, there is also a cute Dodogama.
What is a Deviljho and why is it called Cucumber? The Deviljho is a very dangerous monster that has brought many hunters down. It is incredibly greedy and even eats its own tail when it is severed.
Although it is so dangerous, it has a rather humorous reputation. Deviljho often simply gets caught in environmental traps without even being involved in the fight. Moreover, it is called “Cucumber” by the community. This comes from its appearance, especially its tail. The Deviljho looks like a sour pickle. You know, the kind in the jar.
Additionally, there is a quest in Monster Hunter World where you must defeat a tempered Deviljho. Capcom aptly named this in German “Pickle Time.” One has to chuckle first before the even stronger version of the Deviljho wipes you out.
Why a Deviljho? The Deviljho is one of my favorite monsters. It is simply iconic and has been around since Monster Hunter 3. Defeating it is always a challenge. And it brings me good cheer unless it’s killing me.
This crocheted monster I also have: However, it didn’t stop at a Deviljho. I also received a Dodogama from my friend. In terms of danger, it is the opposite of the Deviljho. No one in the community fears it; it is more like a mascot.
What is a Dodogama? A Dodogama is a Brute Wyvern with a strong jaw. It looks a bit like an overweight lizard but can be very fast. It devours rocks and then spits fireballs at players.
A Rathalos from Lego
I don’t know if you know these Lego Creator figures. With the sets, you have a building kit with bricks and can build three different things from it. One of them includes a red dragon.
You can imagine what a Monster Hunter fan thinks of first. We seized the opportunity and built a Rathalos out of Lego.
What is a Rathalos? Even players who are not well-versed in Monster Hunter might know this dragon. It is the flagship monster, the icon of the first Monster Hunter game.
And it is also seen on the cover of Monster Hunter World. Rathalos is bipedal, has two wings, a spiky red hide, and spits fireballs.
In Monster Hunter World, you can also defeat him again. He appears, as always, with his female counterpart Rathian. Moreover, he has additional variants, one being the blue Azure Rathalos and the other the silver Silver Rathalos.
Why a Rathalos? I am not really restricted in choosing monsters. I like almost all of them, although everyone naturally has their nemeses (in my case, Rajang). The fact that it turned out to be a Rathalos from Lego was more due to the base material. To build it, we just had to rearrange the existing figure a bit. Deep down, I like the Deviljho a little more.
Winter is crafting time. Therefore, this Christmas, a tougher nut from Lego is on the agenda. I bought instructions from the internet to recreate a Deviljho from 194 individual pieces. After the handmade merchandise, it’s all about more handmade merchandise.
