Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 brings some interesting new gadgets. MeinMMO editor Maik Schneider, however, only has eyes for the inflatable soldier. He affectionately calls him ‘Buddy Bubble’ and wants you to befriend him as well.
Even in the beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I knew after just 5 minutes that I actually only wanted to use a specific field upgrade. These are gadgets in the CoD multiplayer that have a cooldown.
While browsing through the menu, I discovered the field upgrade ‘Inflatable Decoy’. I could put that directly into my loadout, so I didn’t have to reach a specific level for it.
Even when assembling my gear, my imagination was ping-ponging about what I could do with it. After all, it’s an inflatable soldier that can be placed anywhere on the battlefield.
Even today, more than 3 months later, Buddy Bubble is still a staple in my loadouts. And with my many, simple kills that I could get with this, I sometimes wonder why anyone would use anything else.

Inflatable Decoy – Never Knew I Wanted This
When the full release of Modern Warfare 2 came, my first stop was also in the loadout menu. Directly check the field upgrades and then complain in the chat.
Because the inflatable decoy can only be unlocked at level 49 – just before the end of the leveling phase for gear in Call of Duty. A hard blow right to the gut.
But when I finally had it, all my expectations were met and even exceeded over time. I thought, ‘If this thing is known, no one is going to shoot at the weird, motionless soldier anymore.’
No way! To this day, Buddy Bubble works great for distractions of all kinds. Combined with flashbangs or smoke grenades, it’s almost professional deception maneuvers with military standards.
Just recently, there was a fantastic clip on reddit that perfectly shows what help Buddy Bubble can be on the battlefield:
Whether against snipers, head glitches, on objectives, or just when I’m charging around a corner – the inflatable soldier doesn’t let me down. Unlike many other teammates, who run past dog tags in the ‘Kill Confirmed’ mode with an outrageous sense of entitlement.
Sometimes the gadget even works too well and tricks me as well. But even that doesn’t bother me – because I smile every time. And in the current state of CoD, I appreciate every moment where I can have a laugh in the game.
By the way, with the drill grenades, I recommend you a new gadget that perfectly complements the inflatable soldier.
I know, silence is also incredibly strong, just like the trophy system, and the deployable cameras can be very helpful.
But what I have already experienced with Buddy Bubble in CoD MW2 can probably be compared to the adventures that SpongeBob and his own bubble buddy have experienced (via youtube.com). I won’t let that go!
