Canadian Félix “xQc” Lengyel (27) is at the top of the gaming streamer scene on Twitch and Kick. He reportedly signed a contract worth 100 million USD with Kick, and alone from Twitch subscriptions, he brings in about €120,000 a month. But he apparently can’t share the luck with anyone.
This is how much money xQc makes:
- The reaction and gaming streamer xQc is likely the highest-paid gamer in the world right now: When a leak of Twitch earnings emerged in 2019, it showed that xQc made almost $650,000 in one month just from subscriptions.
- A few months ago, xQc received an offer from Kick to stream on the platform for 100 million dollars for 2 years, and not even exclusively. The earnings from Twitch continue to pour in.
- The man indulges in expensive status objects such as a diamond-encrusted Rolex watch or a $300,000 sports car, even though he doesn’t even have a driver’s license.
xQc managed to keep his relationship private for 1 month and everything was cool
These are the downsides of success: As it now turns out, his third romantic relationship with a colleague has fallen apart in a relatively short time.
The problem: Every relationship that xQc enters is critically viewed by his fans.
The fans feel: When xQc is in a relationship, he doesn’t stream as frequently as usual. Some viewers prove to be intrusive: A partner by his side even reported stalking and midnight break-ins into his house.
The latest relationship was with a content creator for Overwatch, known as Fran. But this relationship also became public and couldn’t withstand the pressure.
When the relationship became known in June, xQc was already upset about it because he had done a “good job” keeping the relationship under the radar this time.
Everyone advises him as well: If you don’t want “parasocial behavior from the fans”, you need to keep relationships private.
But he only succeeded for a month, then the relationship became “publicly violent”, as he says.
As soon as the relationship became known, the fans ripped each other apart
His partner made the relationship public in June 2023 on her Instagram channel (via reddit), after rumors were circulating. As the site Dexerto reports, xQc’s fans once again proved to be “critical” of the new girlfriend and commented negatively on the relationship – on reddit and in the Twitch chat:
- So people wondered if xQc knew that his girlfriend was a “crypto scammer”.
- Cynically pointed out that he “didn’t learn anything from the relationship with Adept”.
- In any case, this was not a real relationship, it was speculated, but some kind of business thing.
- In any case, the woman is the reason that xQc now streams less.
“I somehow radiate something bad around me”
This is how it broke down: xQc announced at the end of July 2023 that he and Fran were no longer together. They have parted amicably.
However, this apparently didn’t go well either: xQc says he mentioned in a stream that Fran was no longer here and didn’t inform her beforehand. This took her by surprise.
She tried to maintain the facade, but they had not been together for a while.
xQc says the signs for a relationship just aren’t good:
Yeah, there are just too many parts in motion and it’s just too much. I wish everything were much easier, but it’s not. And I also don’t think things will get easier anytime soon. I’m really tired of causing so much damage around me. It seems like everyone around me is suffering a lot and it feels like I’m radiating something bad. I need to take a break.
What does he mean by that? xQc apparently has many young fans who focus on him strongly and have difficulty coping when they have to share his attention with a woman.
Especially in the way he tears apart his former partner Adept and portrays her as a mix of vampire and gold digger, one can see how harsh his fans react to people in his environment. This is likely the “damage” he radiates around him.
Every partner who engages with xQc becomes totally the focus of these fans when the relationship becomes public.
Are there partnerships between streamers that can endure this? Yes, there are some well-known streamer couples that seem to be solid. It seems mainly about the relationship being a part of the streamers’ identity and being accepted by the fans.
Couples like Ludwig/QTCinderella or Tyler1/Macailya are known, although the women have to endure quite a bit. QTCinderella once shared how she struggled with being introduced as “Ludwig’s girlfriend”: When Ludwig says in his stream that he is hungry, people in her stream would tell her to make him a sandwich.
There are also power couples in the scene like Ninja and Jessica Blevins or Doublelift and Leena Xu, who are clearly together and where such dynamics don’t seem to play a role.
If someone who has been single for a long time and has made it part of their image suddenly appears with a partner, it seems to be difficult for the fans – as in the case of Asmongold. Fans said: They could no longer identify with him. They wanted the MMORPG streamer to be as “lonely and unhappy” as they were. The MMORPG streamer Asmongold had a relationship with a streamer that was widely discussed in 2019.
In contrast, there is constant speculation about extroverted streamers like HasanAbi being involved with one streamer or another.
Some successful female streamers seem to completely keep their private lives out of the public eye. Amouranth hid even a husband for years:
