Fortnite professionals can win several million dollars in various tournaments. This is also the dream of 15-year-old Brit Benjy “Benjyfishy” Fish. His mother has now taken him out of school and hired him a private tutor so that he has enough time for Fortnite.
What kind of player is he? Benjyfishy may not be a name that most Fortnite fans recognize, but he has gradually worked his way up.
Thus, the 15-year-old has now qualified for both the Solo and Duo competitions at the upcoming World Cup in Fortnite. He will be competing against the really big gamers for several million dollars.
The field of participants in the Fortnite World Cup is exclusive and even star players are not in the competition yet: Only 100 players can qualify for Solo and Duo (50 teams) – and Benjy Fish is already taking up two spots.
Why he was taken out of school
This is how his mother reacted: His mother, who is also his manager, fully supports the 15-year-old. She has now deregistered her son from school so that he can focus more on his gaming career. The Brit was said to be very unfocused and tired at school as Fortnite tournaments often went late into the night.

Instead, Benjyfishy is now being homeschooled. There he learns what would have taken 2 years of school in 3 years. This means he now has more free time, which he can spend on gaming.
What has he won so far? He has already earned a total of 25,000 pounds in prize money. Qualifying for the Fortnite World Cup guarantees the 15-year-old a further $50,000.
He also owns a YouTube channel with about 150,000 subscribers, and over 120,000 fans follow him on Twitch. This is likely bringing him more money.
What does the boy himself say? For Benjy, a dream is coming true. As he told the British Mirror, he has wanted to be a professional gamer since he was 13.
The boy says he couldn’t believe it when his mother suggested taking him out of school.
Since he was 7 years old, he has been playing Call of Duty on Xbox; in 2018 he switched to Fortnite.
The key moment for Benji was probably when he woke his mother in the middle of the night to tell her he had won 10,000 pounds (11,300€) at an online tournament. Benjy shared this immediately on Snapchat. The next day, his friends congratulated him at school and his music teacher told him that he was already earning more than most staff at the school.

If he actually wins a large sum at the Fortnite World Cup, he wants to buy a house for himself and his mother.
Benjy says his father died of cancer when he was just 8 months old; since then, he and his mother have only rented. A place they could call home would be great. They also live on a small island now, and the internet there is probably not good enough if more people want to watch him play Fortnite.

Maybe Benjy’s mother will also manage to coach him to success. This father made it:
