In Destiny 2 there is a weapon that every game developer and weapon design lead probably fears. Its name: Telesto. Its mission: To be buggy. After Bungie recently gave it a lot of attention with a mini-Telesto event, the queen of bugs is showing once again that she has no intention of giving up. Here is bug number 42 from Season 21.
What is going on with Telesto again? Having a truly unique weapon in a game is great. However, in Destiny 2, it seems a curse lies upon this very unique weapon.
The Destiny developers probably now have the utmost respect for this fusion rifle, because with the current bug, it is already broken for the 42nd time and seems unwilling to be tamed in the future.
It’s like a curse that primarily lies on the little purple orbs of Telesto. They are sort of like sticky mines and explode with a delay. The game can’t handle these things at all and is causing problems again in Season 21.
- With Update 7.1.0.3, Bungie actually wanted to fix the bug that allowed both the workhorse and Telesto to damage enemies through walls or other geometry.
With the workhorse, that worked well. However, the fusion rifle Telesto has now become even stranger, as a player reports on the Destiny Reddit.
“Forget the Witness! Telesto will be the Final Form”
This is Telesto Bug number 42: One might almost think that it isn’t Destiny 2 that is working towards its final form in the upcoming DLC, but rather Telesto.
At least the persistence with which the weapon repeatedly causes problems is incredible. After all, the latest bug has not yet led to a deactivation.
As the player Treatments_157, who claims to know Telesto very well, reports, you can still equip the weapon and discover its currently strange behavior.
- It seems that Update 7.1.0.3 has changed the collision hitbox with which Telesto sticks to objects while the hitbox for explosion damage remained intact.
- This means that the bolts of the fusion rifle no longer sink into surfaces as usual and float oddly in the air.
- The spread of the bolts is now much larger as well, which leads to greater damage variations and even causes targets to be hit less accurately.
With the traditional projectiles of the automatic rifle workhorse, Bungie’s solution worked well. But apparently not for the bolt-throwing Telesto.
The weapon is so crazy that it even once wanted to take over Destiny 2 completely:
The community takes it with humor
Telesto is just cult: Some players take the situation with humor and see the many bugs as part of the weapon’s character. Consequently, the comments are also quite funny.
A player CelestialAxolotl comments on the Reddit post: “In reality, Telesto is working towards the final form, not the Witness.”
And when you look at the bolts of Telesto and the portal in the Traveler right now, you could actually draw suspicious color parallels.
The player BitterGreen even believes: “Telesto is the final form!” and beren0073 comments for Telesto by responding: “I am not trapped here with you, you are trapped here with me!”
After all, JJroks543 now feels comfortable in Destiny 2 again and says: “It feels so warm and cozy to have a new Telesto bug out there. It just hasn’t been the same without [Telesto] smashing the fabric of reality once per season.”
While the Destiny player MendigoBob believes he has stumbled upon a hot lead:
THIS is the missing piece of the puzzle. The reason why the servers are so bad this season. We haven’t had a Telesto bug! If we think about it, Telesto is the balance of the servers. It breaks so that the rest of the game doesn’t collapse.

One thing is for sure: Telesto has gained a certain notoriety for its numerous malfunctions in Destiny 2 over time. In the community, the weapon is often humorously referred to as the “Queen of Bugs”. Also because hardly any player in Destiny has not yet become “TelestotseleT”. It is like an unwritten Destiny law that needs to be broken.
