The hardcore MMORPG Mortal Online 2 by Star Vault AB is planning an upgrade from Unreal Engine 4 to 5. This will give developers more opportunities for graphically demanding design.
Mortal Online 2 was released in January 2022. Now it aims to become the first major MMORPG to utilize Unreal Engine 5 for development. After the upgrade, developers will have access to new tools to significantly improve the game’s visual aspects.
The highly anticipated MMORPG Ashes of Creation is also using Unreal Engine 5.
What does Unreal Engine 5 mean? It is the latest version of a game engine developed by Epic Games. Currently, some games are being developed with it that we are eagerly awaiting.
Two important features of Unreal Engine 5 (UE 5) are “Lumen” for sophisticated lighting in every scene, and “Nanite,” the geometry pipeline. Thanks to Nanite, developers can load high-resolution 3D models and textures into the engine.
Improved graphics and reduced loading times
With the lighting system “Lumen,” developers will soon be able to make the environment more detailed and ensure a more realistic representation. In their blog post on the topic, the developers show 2 screenshots comparing UE 4 and UE 5:
Furthermore, “Nanite” gives developers the ability to use unlimited polygons for their models without affecting the MMORPG’s performance. As a result, you will be able to see many more details in the future.
An ambitious new weather system is also coming to Mortal Online 2. This will be particularly interesting when players have arrived at the Magic School and can control the sky through elements.
Apart from graphical aspects, Star Vault wants to make gameplay more enjoyable. In the future, loading times are to be reduced, which would be a relief, for example, during fast travel.
When will the upgrade occur? Currently, there is no date for the improvement to UE 5. Star Vault only explains that they will keep at it and want to share more updates and screenshots in the future.
