The German streamer MontanaBlack criticizes the jury of an award for content creators in Germany and complains about parts of the German Twitch scene. Among other things, he attacks the YouTuber HandofBlood.
What award is it about?
- Since 2013, the event “VideoDays” has been held, where awards are given to German content creators. In 2013, among others, Y-Titty (Comedy), LeFloid (Information), and Flying Uwe (Sports) won.
- In 2023, the event took place on September 27 at the Palladium in the Cologne district of Mülheim.
- Winners included Jasmin Gnu (Gaming), Papaplatte (Streaming), and 7 vs. Wild (Longform).
Technical problems plagued award ceremony in Cologne
This was the general criticism of the award ceremony: Following the “VideoDays Award Gala” on September 27, 2023, there was some criticism against the VideoDays Awards. Content creators like Kyzer (via youtube) or ELoTRiX (via youtube) commented on the event:
- There was criticism that the categories and the nominated candidates seemed arbitrarily chosen and were partly nonsensical: For instance, the format “7 vs. Wild” and the opinion blogger Alicia Joe were nominated in the Longform category, two different offerings that are not comparable.
- Furthermore, it was allegedly reported that the organizers omitted the “Sports” category. It seemed as if the category had simply been “forgotten”.
- Above all, the poor technical quality of the stream was criticized: Streaming winner Papaplatte was connected, but there was no sound.
The segment starts at 2:20 minutes:
MontanaBlack criticizes the selection of nominees
Why was MontanaBlack so upset? In a Twitch stream, MontanaBlack was particularly annoyed about the selection of nominees. He could not understand why the streamer Shurjoka was nominated for the award in Gaming. Shurjoka had no place in this category.
According to MontanaBlack, this nomination shows that the selection of nominees is about connections and sympathy within a scene, not about performance:
I’m just going to say it, I don’t care if I get canceled for this or if I get a shitstorm on Twitter. These are all the do-gooders, this whole left bubble, all the hypocrites, all the bastards. I have to say it: Those in the jury who choose a Shurjoka because “Oh yes, we stick together and blah women” – that has nothing to do with reason anymore. It’s just disgusting as fuck and should be forbidden. Shurjoka has no place in the category. None.
That Shurjoka is among the nominees shows how “left-soaked” the whole scene has become. It just disgusts him.
As part of a “left bubble” that he despises, MontanaBlack sees the content creators Shurjoka, Freiraumreh, Rob Bubble, and HandofBlood.
The segment starts at 8:43 minutes:
MontanaBlack sees himself as “the most relevant person in Germany for the last 10 years”
This is what he says about the award: MontanaBlack states that at such an award, it should never be about sympathy, but about what one has achieved on the internet. In his opinion, these are rigged formats:
All these VideoDays Awards and everything that has happened in the last few years has always been shit, and I’ll tell you why: I have never been nominated anywhere. I’m clapping myself on the shoulder now. Okay, you can consider that conceited or not: I’ve never been nominated anywhere, and that shows that something is wrong, dude.
If you’ve been the most relevant person, male, in Germany for 10 years, but have never been nominated anywhere, then you know very well that it’s not judged based on fairness or neutrality, but always based on sympathy.
Are there any awards that MontanaBlack appreciates? Later in the Twitch stream, MontanaBlack praises the “Stream Awards,” which were awarded in January 2023 by Reved and Amar.
MontanaBlack hopes that the award continues to grow and gain relevance. However, that is independent of whether he has won the award twice or not: Uncle Monte has played through everything that can be played through. The trophies he won are sitting in his grandparents’ display case. They would have been happy.
How are things in the USA? MontanaBlack praises how awards are presented in the USA. He seems to refer to the “Streamer Awards” by QTCinderella. There, in 2023, streamers who can be assigned to various camps won:
- For example, Hasanabi won in the “Best Just Chatting” category, and OfflineTV at “Best Content Organization.
- But streamers like Asmongold, Tyler1, or xQc also won.
Though in the USA in 2022, there was also criticism of this format, as YouTube streamers like Valkyrae, Corpse Husband, or Sykkuno were not recognized.

What problem does MontanaBlack have with HandofBlood? MontanaBlack sees HandofBlood as part of a “left-soaked do-gooders bubble” on Twitch, which would criticize him on Twitter, but has remained silent about the misconduct of Shurjoka towards Scurrows .
What exactly he has against HandofBlood, MontanaBlack does not specify.
However, a tweet from HandofBlood in 2020 about the Malta trip of MontanaBlack, led to a one-month ban for MontanaBlack.
In the Twitch stream, MontanaBlack says:
I’m so glad to be me. And I’m so glad to say in my stream, with a good feeling: Fuck you all. I’m so glad to be something special, not to swim with the masses. And the cool thing is: You will never achieve what I achieve. Fuck you all.
In doing so, the streamer held up 2 middle fingers to the camera. We have included a snapshot of this as the title image.
What do people say in the comments? In the YouTube video that shows the clip from the Twitch stream, MontanaBlack is praised for his statements. He expresses “clearly what everyone thinks.”
Only a few people criticize that it is unclear why he has something against HandofBlood. He doesn’t deserve to be dragged into this issue.
