The biggest German Twitch streamer, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris, has been planning to host his own tournament in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 since April. Some well-known personalities from Twitch and YouTube were involved. However, MontanaBlack had to interrupt the tournament after nearly 2 hours due to DDoS attacks on the server.
What kind of tournament was it? In MontanaBlack’s “Black Ops 2” tournament, 8 teams of 4 players each were supposed to compete against each other. The team leaders were 8 well-known content creators from YouTube and Twitch, who could bring in 3 more people. They played against each other for 8,000 Euros.
On May 14th, at 4 PM, it started. You can see the exact teams in MontanaBlack’s tweet:
How was the preparation? The servers were hosted by Plutonium in America. However, the setup turned out to be more difficult than expected, and the host had to set everything up individually. Because of this, the tournament was even postponed (via Twitter).
YouTuber HapticRush and his colleagues also helped set up the servers, moderated them, and got everything running. They tested the servers for a month to see if everything was stable, Haptic shared on the tournament evening.

DDoS attacks force MontanaBlack to cancel the tournament
How did the tournament go? Almost not at all. At first, it seemed everything was running smoothly. But then the lags started, and the participants complained about pings between 300 and 400. Initially, it wasn’t clear what was causing this, as the servers and internet were stable.
Eventually, it became clear that DDoS attacks were likely being executed on the IP address. For nearly 2 hours, Haptic, his colleagues, and MontanaBlack tried to get the tournament up and running.
You can watch the Twitch stream here:
Eris had already lost hope after about an hour: “When it runs, it runs. If we have problems again, we will cancel the tournament.” And that’s exactly what happened. The streamer canceled the tournament and said:
There’s nothing we can do now, chat. This is very, very sad. (…) Haptic invested so much time and love into this with his team, and this is an absolute disaster for him right now.
MontanaBlack
HapticRush was visibly affected after investing so much time, and he left the stream for a while. MontanaBlack, on the other hand, appeared to take it relatively calmly:
I’m being honest, guys, I’m used to this. You know how it is, DDoS has always been a problem. (…) On montanablack.de, for example, we were also regularly DDoS’d when we had events.
MontanaBlack
He further urged his Twitch colleagues not to get upset about it, as the DDoS attackers want exactly that. He then continued with his stream, playing Fall Guys and other games with some participants of the tournament.
Is there a reschedule for the tournament? Probably not for now. MontanaBlack only mentioned at the end: “The ‘Black Ops 2’ tournament is unfortunately canceled for now. (…) It is what it is. We can’t change anything now and we won’t be able to change anything. Wipe your mouth and move on – it’s that simple.”
