On November 12th, after a 7-year break, the TV total Wok World Championship took place. Part of the team consisted of well-known German Twitch streamers. One of the streamers, Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (34), drew an honest conclusion following his participation. Although he complained quite a bit, he also spoke about his highlights.
What was this event like? The Wok World Championship is a TV format created by Stefan Raab. Between 2003 and 2015, it took place annually, and now, after a 7-year break, the Wok World Championship returned to German television.
How did it go for the content creators? In addition to the Twitch team consisting of MontanaBlack, Trymacs, Knossi, and UnsympathischTV, there was also a team featuring YouTubers Papaplatte, Rewi, and Laserluca. The YouTube team was supported by the Wildcard winner Johannes.
Unfortunately, neither of the two influencer teams could make it to the winner’s podium; for Trymacs, the Wok World Championship ended with an injury.

“It was awesome to be a part of it, but …”
In a stream on November 13th, the day after the Wok World Championship, MontanaBlack shared his conclusion. When prompted about his participation, he explained: “It was an awesome thing to be there.” Especially the time spent with the “guys”, the other participating streamers and YouTubers, seemed to have pleased MontanaBlack.
What were the highlights for MontanaBlack? For the streamer, the highlight was clearly the time spent with other content creators and people he only knew from television, like Evil Jared from the Bloodhound Gang.
MontanaBlack particularly highlighted a 15-minute conversation with the former “TV total” moderator and father of the Wok World Championship, Stefan Raab. Knossi apparently fulfilled a promise and ensured that MontanaBlack got to shake hands with the entertainer.
MontanaBlack also seemed to have enjoyed meeting Manfred “Manni” Ludolf from the scrap dealer series “Die Ludolfs.” Ludolf is a really nice guy and gave him an autograph card, which was also signed by the now-deceased Günter Ludolf.
However, after the positive start, a big “but” followed. MontanaBlack had quite a few criticisms. As one viewer noted, an event without Monte’s criticism is not really an event (via YouTube).
Much Boredom and Dead Time at the Edge of the Event
What bothered MontanaBlack?
- Firstly, MontanaBlack felt that the time investment for “going down the track twice” was quite large. As he reported, participants were on site from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm, then had to reappear at 6:15 pm to put on their protective clothing. However, they had nothing to do until 10:45 pm, which is why he said he sometimes appeared so bored, according to MontanaBlack.
- Additionally, he felt like he was put on display due to the long wait time. People kept walking by and wanting to take photos with him.
- MontanaBlack was also dissatisfied with the way the internet personalities were treated. In the introduction video where the participants were introduced, there wasn’t a single clip of them. Instead, the YouTuber Joshua Weißleder aka Simon Desue was shown to familiarize people with the topic of content creators. This was the one person who represented them the least as streamers, according to MontanaBlack.
- Moreover, MontanaBlack felt that the well-known internet personalities were invited primarily for their reach. This was then exploited by showing a long advertising block both before and after their departure, which wasn’t the case for other teams. In the end, he felt “quite made a fool of” by this.
