The German streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris was still number 2 worldwide on Twitch in September 2019 after the most watched hours. In October he fell out of the top 10 – a Twitch ban contributed to this. In addition, he refrained from broadcasting gambling and turned back to Fortnite and FIFA 20.
This is how the numbers have changed:
- In September 2019, MontanaBlack streamed for 131 hours on Twitch, with an average of 49,449 viewers (via sullygnome) – that was enough for 2nd place worldwide on Twitch. We reported about it on MeinMMO.
- In October 2019 he streamed only 73 hours, with an average of 29,668 viewers.
MontanaBlack streamed 44% less and had 40% fewer average viewers. As a result, he lost 66% of watched hours – thus he fell far out of the top 10.
Twitch ban after outburst at FIFA 20
Why did MontanaBlack stream so little? The lower number of hours by MontanaBlack was not self-selected, but was due to a Twitch ban.
According to his own statements, MontanaBlack was on a Discord server, in a voice chat, and he had terribly complained about FIFA 20 there: He said words that he cannot use on Twitch. However, he also did not think that he was being heard live on Twitch.
But a “colleague of his” who was streaming on Twitch had transmitted it without his knowledge, and thus his forbidden words went live.
MontanaBlack then received a 7-day ban on Twitch, which he was not very happy about. MontanaBlack even hinted at possibly switching to Mixer.
No more gambling, but Fortnite, FIFA, Call of Duty
What did he stream? The “stream diet” of MontanaBlack has changed somewhat. In September 2019, he had the most viewers on average when playing “slots”. These are gambling games on Twitch, such as blackjack for money. There, he had an average of 65,607 viewers. MontanaBlack is considered a “high-roller”, someone who plays for relatively large amounts of money.
However, in October, MontanaBlack no longer focused on slots. His most successful game is now Fortnite again. He played it for 12 hours, with an average of 40,000 viewers. (Via sullygnome)
Most of the time, MontanaBlack played FIFA 20 on Twitch – there, “only” 25,300 viewers watched him on average. Big success here are scenes in which MontanaBlack buys card packs and hopes for top players:
How do you define top streamers on Twitch? When it comes to top streamers, it’s about the “most-watched hours” on channels of individuals on Twitch. The channels of companies are excluded from this count.
In October 2019, for example, the Twitch channel Riot Games was extremely active and successful due to the LoL World Championship. However, they do not count as a company in the determination of the “top streamers”. As a result, WoW streamer Asmongold has been number 1 for the third consecutive month.
