The popular crossover quest with Witcher 3 keeps returning to Monster Hunter: World. The event is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We’ll show you how to achieve the best ending.
What is the event quest about? MHW is known for hosting many collaborations with other games. One of them is the crossover event with Witcher 3, the popular RPG by CD Projekt Red.
The hunters embark on a hunt for the feared monster, the Forest Spirit, and can earn various rewards along the way.
The trick is that this event contains several hidden side quests that influence the outcome of the event. We will explain how this event quest works and how to achieve the best results.
Where can you find the quest?
- Name: Spirit of the Forest
- Location: Ancient Forest
- Rank: 9 stars
- Requirements: Hunter Rank 50 or higher
- Success Conditions: Kill the Ancient Forest Spirit
How does the quest work? During this quest, you play as the Witcher Geralt of Rivia with his own equipment and abilities. Several gameplay elements from the Witcher game have also been incorporated into the quest in MHW.
How to start the quest: At the beginning of the quest, you must find the chief botanist and the local researcher in the Ancient Forest:
- The researcher is located in area 3 and her dialogue options will lead you into area 1
- You will find the chief botanist’s notebook in area 11. Follow the trail to find more books and finally the botanist himself.
In order for the quest to continue, you must exhaust the dialogue options with both NPCs. From now on, you can tackle the two short side quests that are necessary for the event quest.
How to complete the side quests
What you need to do for the side quest “Unexpected Companions”: Near the location where you found the botanist in area 8, you will find more of the strange roots. They are holding a living Pukei-Pukei captive.
Free the Pukei with the help of the Igni Sign, and it will fly away.
What you need to do for the side quest “The Chief’s Problem”: To start this quest, you must have completed the Gajalaka research quest and unlocked all Palico gadgets. In our guide, we explain how to unlock all Palico gadgets.
Head to Camp 11. In the area outside the camp, you will find many markings. Investigate them, and a Lynian researcher with an exclamation mark will be marked on your map.
He will send you to the upper area of the forest in area 16, where you can normally find the Rathalos, to talk with the Gajalakas.
Defeat them and exhaust all dialogue options. They will send you back down to the expert in the wild. Once her dialogue options have also been exhausted, you will learn where the Gajalaka chief is located.
Defeat the chief and his two companions in area 13 to complete this side quest.
What’s next with the main quest: Return to area 12 and destroy the totem of the Forest Spirit to trigger the fight against him.
- He mostly summons tree roots to attack you

- He can teleport by dissolving into a swarm of crows
- After two teleports, he will summon a pack of Jagras

After the Forest Spirit has fled for the fourth and final time, Pukei-Pukei will come to your aid. You will again have to fight against a pack of Jagras.
Eliminate them quickly before they succeed in killing the Pukei. If his HP falls too low, you can heal him with the life powder found in your inventory.

Catching Nekker – Here’s how
How to find Nekker for the Palico armor: It’s also possible to make your Palico look like a Nekker with an event outfit. However, to forge the set, you first need to catch one of these creatures during a bounty hunt.
Get the Critical bounty “Research Assistance: Creature Capture” at the resource center, where you need to catch a Nekker. The rank does not matter.
For this, go on an expedition at night in the Ancient Forest. Make sure there is a Great Jagras in the area. Otherwise, restart the expedition. Then proceed as follows:
- Go to camp 1 and use the Ghillie mantle
- Hide near a herd of Aptonoths and wait for the Great Jagras to attack them
- Follow the Great Jagras from a distance
- The Jagras will return to its nest and spit out its prey there
With a bit of luck, the Nekker will appear, which you can easily catch with the net.
