Monster Hunter World was released in 2018 and was a great success for a franchise that was previously quite small in the West. The game is still played by many people today, and we won’t have to wait too long for the next installment in the series.
Capcom posted today on March 12, 2024, the news that Monster Hunter World has sold over 25 million copies. This makes it the most successful Capcom game of all time. The calculation includes the base version of the game as well as the Iceborne Master Edition. The entire series reached over 97 million sales by the end of 2023.
Monster Hunter World is ahead of Capcom successes like Resident Evil 5 or Street Fighter 2. The special thing about these large sales is that the game will turn eight years old in August and recently experienced a small hype again.
Now, of course, the question arises as to how the series will continue. At the Game Awards, we got a glimpse of Monster Hunter Wilds.
A new Monster Hunter title is expected in 2025
While the trailer doesn’t show much, it does offer a glimpse of a larger world. Whether it will be an open world or whether we will continue to hunt monsters in larger areas is still unknown. However, one thing is clear from the trailer: Capcom is working on a true sequel to Monster Hunter World, with all its production values.
When exactly the game will be released is still unknown. However, 2025 has been confirmed as the year. New information for the game is expected to follow in the summer of this year.
In the meantime, versions of Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2 for current consoles will be released. These are spin-offs of the main games that can be most closely compared to Pokémon. So, for those who can’t wait and have never played these games, it’s worth taking a look at the new versions.
