Monster Hunter World (PC, PS4, Xbox One) has released its first high-quality video. The gameplay looks stunning in high resolution. We learn a little more about the game in the shown single-player campaign.
Monster Hunter World will be the biggest title in the franchise so far. The maps will be massive and for the first time seamless, which creates an “open world” feel. The new gameplay trailer from Capcom shows what the new Monster Hunter is all about. Everything in the world can interact: players, creatures, and environment.
The world seems to breathe and offers a realistic ecosystem.
Monster Hunter World: High-Quality Gameplay Trailer
The gameplay video of Monster Hunter World shows a hunter on a mission. It seems to be a tutorial, as basic hunting mechanics are explained to the player. He is accompanied by the voice of a young woman who gives him the quest and introduces him to the surroundings. The monster being hunted in the trailer is a new addition to the franchise: The Anjanath.
Overview of What the Video Shows
- The hunter is sent on a mission to hunt a monster named Anjanath. It leaves slime traces that the player can use for orientation.
- It is shown right at the beginning how the food chain works: A large Jagras comes by and devours another monster.
- In nature, the hunter finds hard seeds that he uses as ammunition for a slingshot. There are different seeds for the slingshot and they all have different properties.
- Scout Flies help the hunter track the monster. They fly in the direction of the target and guide the player. However, the hunter must first analyze the monster’s footprints before the insects can find the target.
- The hunter engages in a approximately 15-minute fight with the monster. He has to come up with new strategies to attack the monster and uses his weapon, a large sword, and the environment to fight.

- The player uses jump attacks to get onto the back of the monster. From here, the Anjanath can deal less damage to the hunter. He cuts off the monster’s tail and for the rest of the video, the beast is missing the end of its tail.
- The monster can be used to open new paths. The Anjanath breaks through a wall and opens a cave where “Flashflies” are located. When the flies are hit, they create a flash that stuns the monster for a short time.
- Monsters have different personalities and will either attack hunters or flee when attacked. The Anjanath is aggressive and chases the hunter.
- When the monster is weakened enough, it starts to limp. It is on the verge of being defeated.
- The hunter goes back to his base camp in the middle of the fight and changes his equipment and weapon for the final blow.
- Different mantles are shown that the hunter uses. One mantle attracts the Anjanath, while the other mantle offers support to maintain a steady hand with the explosive bow.
- When the hunter has slain the Anjanath, he completes the quest. Finally, he searches the corpse for valuable “items” such as bones and meat.

Leya says: The gameplay trailer gives me great hope that Monster Hunter World will be exactly what Capcom has promised so far. The attention to detail in the map is stunning. Everything seems to impact each other and follows a certain logic in a fantastic world. I am especially excited about the Scout Flies, as they will be a great help in finding monsters. They fit perfectly into the new seamless maps.
The best “Monster Hunter” experience will likely be playing together with a group again. I can already imagine how one hunter uses the environment to distract the monster while the other hacks away and shoots.
In high quality, the gameplay also looks damn good. I can’t wait.
What do you think of the new gameplay material?
Monster Hunter World will be released in early 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version will be a bit later.
