It has been a month since Monster Hunter World celebrated its release on PS4 and Xbox One. In this short time, a lot has happened in the action RPG and the community. What has happened in the past few weeks and what stories have emerged?
On January 26, Monster Hunter World was released worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Hunters from all over the world have had a month to discover Monster Hunter World together and uncover the secrets of the game.
What has actually happened during this time? What has moved the community, what new insights have emerged, and how has the gameplay developed?
Monster Hunter World: Sales skyrocketed in January
A certain hype built up around Monster Hunter World and many were eagerly waiting for the game. Even the beta convinced many testers, who looked positively towards the release. So it is no surprise that Monster Hunter World sold exceptionally well in January.

It seems that Capcom’s plan to establish Monster Hunter World in the West for the first time has succeeded.

The launch went largely smoothly – the multiplayer was a bit bumpy
The release was largely trouble-free for Monster Hunter World. Only the multiplayer had some issues, especially for players on the Xbox One. Players could only play Monster Hunter World solo for a long time due to a matchmaking problem. However, this issue has since been resolved.
Furthermore, shortly after the release, the functions of the multiplayer were difficult for most players to grasp. Many simply did not know how to go hunting together, as the game provides little explanation on this.
Therefore, we published a detailed guide explaining the multiplayer in Monster Hunter World shortly after the release.

Event quests that offered hunters a challenge
As promised, Capcom provided the hunters with a rotation of various event quests. These are quests that present a special challenge and reward players with different rewards.
Most of the quests consist of hunting different monsters simultaneously or special variants. The current events for March 2018 even stirred up rumors. Some fans suspect that a suspiciously “easy quest” might include the first DLC monster, the Deviljho.
Other events brought heroes from other games to Monster Hunter World:
Capcom has already announced that special events like the Aloy quest will run in a rotation and will return later.

Monster Hunter World and the Switch – A difficult matter
The Monster Hunter series was often featured on the Nintendo 3DS in the past and has many fans among Nintendo enthusiasts. Therefore, many Nintendo gamers were also hoping for a port of Monster Hunter World on the Nintendo Switch.
Thus, Capcom received several requests for the Switch as the console is clearly trending. In mid-January, Capcom President Tsujimoto commented on the topic and had to disappoint the fans.
Tsujimoto stated that a port of Monster Hunter World to the Switch would currently be too difficult.

Newbie hunters could hire experienced mentors
The first “Monster Hunter” title was released back in 2004. Since then, a loyal fan community has formed that is well-versed in the franchise and all game mechanics.
The veterans know how difficult it can be to get started in Monster Hunter. Therefore, experienced hunters decided to start the “Adopt-A-Hunter” program.
Through a Discord server, beginners and veterans are brought together. Care is taken to ensure the beginner and mentor speak the same language to avoid communication issues. The program was started shortly before the release of Monster Hunter World. By the end of January, over 500 veterans had joined, helping new hunters worldwide, and they are still doing so.

The community was creative and inspired by Monster Hunter World
In recent weeks, the Monster Hunter community has been creative and produced numerous fan-made products:
- Fan makes faces as if he were in the Monster Hunter World editor
- Monster Hunter World is so good that even Honest Trailers has to praise it

The gameplay was gradually discovered by hunters
To modernize Monster Hunter World for home consoles, Capcom decided to adjust various aspects compared to its predecessors. Even the veterans had to learn some steps anew:
In the last few weeks, hunters have gradually discovered how Monster Hunter World actually works. They learned about brutal monster fights, such as with the Anjanath, which represents the first major challenge.
Hunters especially enjoyed discovering funny little details, such as catapulting each other onto giant bats. They also gradually became familiar with the 14 weapon classes and the big speed runs with the best equipment began.
For example, a Japanese player shows how he destroyed the Nergigante in just 57 seconds with the bow.

Monster Hunter World still suffers from a troll problem
In recent weeks, a group of trolls also entered Monster Hunter World. Some players enjoy ruining the loot for other hunters.
Monster Hunter World has a friendly-fire mechanic. Hunters can stun other players or knock them down with their weapon. As a result, the affected players are interrupted in their actions. The trolls exploit friendly-fire to prevent other players from carving a monster for loot.
Capcom has already released a statement regarding the troll problem.

What about the PC release of Monster Hunter World?
Another question that has often been asked in recent weeks is about the PC release. So far, the action RPG is only playable on PS4 and Xbox One, but a PC release is scheduled for Autumn 2018.
In an interview, Capcom told us that they would start working on the PC version only after the console release.
There are some experts who claim that the late PC release could harm Monster Hunter World.

The current endgame of Monster Hunter World has been discovered
Some hunters have already delved into the endgame of Monster Hunter World after just a few weeks. Like in the game itself, it’s about farming monsters to upgrade your gear. In the endgame, hunters encounter hardened monsters that possess particularly high attack power.
These hunters are already wishing for an endgame after the endgame. Could it be the G-Rank?
