Monster Hunter World (PS4 and Xbox One) was recently taken down a peg by the creators of the infamous “Honest Trailers.” They usually make fun of everything. But the monster mayhem is so good that it even holds up well here.
On the internet, “Honest Trailers” is notorious for dissecting movies and games in a sarcastic manner. An epic voice reveals the strengths, but mostly the weaknesses, of works like the Wonder Woman film, Star Wars, or Destiny 2.
Especially the often maligned Battlefront 2 recently did not fare well in the Honest Trailers. Now it is Monster Hunter World’s turn.
Lots of Praise …
But don’t worry, Monster Hunter World seems to have been appreciated by the creators of the video. The following aspects are praised, among others:
- Finally, a Monster Hunter that can be played “correctly” with a controller. The predecessors were mostly on handhelds.
- An open world without loading screens
- A tracking system that doesn’t feel like a “Pain in the Ass”
- A grappling hook that makes you feel like a “Stone Age Spiderman”
- The ability to create a “Badass” cat companion, name it “Mittens,” and slurp the blood of enemies together!
- A really cool combat system that one would of course compare to Dark Souls
… but also sharp jabs
However, Honest Trailers would not be Honest Trailers if there weren’t a few things to complain about. Therefore, Monster Hunter World must also endure a few sarcastically stated criticisms in the video:
- The fights are great, but the rest of the game is still “as exciting as a tax return”
- The game is more accessible and now a bit less complex than learning a foreign language
- One spends many hours grinding for that one missing item that one NEVER gets. Not even in a team!
- When one finally has a new item, one uses it to beat up the same creatures again. “The circle of life is really beautiful here!”
Finally, the trailer describes the complete humiliation that after a distress signal via flare, three Japanese players would immediately show up and filet the previously unbeatable monster in just a few minutes. “The Shame …”
