In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, there is quite a lot to collect. In the Guiding Lands, you can find 6 rare Maulis (Molies). We will show you their locations and tips for capturing them in this guide.
What is a Mauli (Moly)? It is a type of native life in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. You can capture these creatures with a net. Maulis are small moles that you can only find in the Guiding Lands. So, you must have completed your story. Each biome in the Guiding Lands has two fixed spots where the little ones can appear.
Additionally, each of the six areas has a special Mauli. It visually stands out from the others and is usually recognizable from a distance. The Maulis are very shy, so you should not approach them unprepared.
What rare Maulis are there? There are six different Maulis that you can also see in the picture above:
- Spined Mauli in the Decay Biome
- Fluffy Mauli in the Coral Biome
- Frost Mauli in the Tundra Biome
- Wild Mauli in the Volcano Biome
- Stone Mauli in the Wasteland Biome
- Moss Mauli in the Forest Biome
Tips for the fluffy friends
What you need to prepare: Before starting your journey, you should definitely pack the Ghillie Mantle. This tool makes it harder for monsters to spot you. With native creatures, it even prevents you from being detected. This way, you can easily catch the Maulis.
It is also advisable to wear a farming set and diligently collect Guiding Lands materials along the way. You will need these for the upgrade and augmentation of your gear. With such a set, you should look for skills like “Master Gatherer”, “Camouflage”, “Botanist”, or “Geologist”.
As the names suggest, you can gather better and more. Moreover, thanks to “Camouflage”, large monsters will no longer be able to detect you. You should also have “Tool Specialist” on your gear. This allows your Ghillie Mantle to return faster after it expires.
You can even increase your chance of finding Maulis if you eat corresponding meals in the canteen. The skills “Animal Master” or “Macrobiologist” should be at the top of your menu.
Making it easy to catch Maulis
This is how you catch the Maulis: To get your hands on the Maulis, you need your net. You can assign it via your quick-select menu. So put on your Ghillie Mantle and approach the moles.
While doing this, you don’t need to be worried or hurry. The little buddies won’t even notice you because of the mantle when you’re standing right next to them. Just make sure that the rectangle of your net is really orange, so you can safely catch the mole.
You should also keep the following points in mind for the rare Maulis:
- The biome must be at least level 5
- In rare cases, they can appear at lower levels
- Weather does not affect their appearance
- Time of day is not relevant for the Maulis
- Maulis also spawn when Elder Dragons are on the map
Your Ghillie Mantle can take you through some biomes. However, when it expires, you should wait. Do not approach the moles without the mantle. They are fast and very difficult to catch if they spot you.
If you finish your search, you do not need to reload the map. Defeating a monster is enough to make the Maulis appear again.
All locations of the Maulis in the Guiding Lands
We will now reveal the exact spots where the Maulis can appear. They like to socialise around plants or mushrooms, which you can also check on your mini-map if needed.
The locations in the Coral Biome
The first spot is in Area 11 in the Coral Biome. You need to climb up to the elevation. The Maulis are located in front of the herb.
The second group of Maulis can be found in Area 10. You need to walk all the way back and climb down towards the honey.
The locations in the Wasteland Biome
The first spawn point for the Maulis in the Wasteland Biome is in Area 8. Walk all the way back and up the mountain, where the ants are also found. They circle around the Power Seed. Be sure to watch out for the mosquitoes if you put on your mantle too late.
The second location is in Area 9. Look out for the green area. The Maulis can also be found here again among the herb.
The locations in the Forest Biome
The first Maulis in the Forest Biome can be found in Area 7. Crawl through the narrow pass in the back. Better put on your Ghillie Mantle in advance. The little moles are located directly behind the entrance among the herb.
Otherwise, there are Maulis in the Forest Biome in Area 6. Here again, they are found in the company of a herb.
The locations in the Decay Biome
In the Decay Biome, the Maulis gather around an ivy. You can find it in the back of Area 12.
The second spot for Maulis is here in Area 13. You will find them between the Devil’s Pest Mushroom on the hill and the wall.
The locations in the Volcano Biome
The unique Mauli in the Volcano Biome is the second newest. It came with the first DLC of Iceborne to the game. The first spawn point can be found in Area 15 around a Power Seed.
The second location in the Volcano Biome is in Area 14 near the Mandragora Mushroom.
The locations in the Tundra Biome
The newest fluffy friend in the ranks is the Frost Mauli. You can find it in the Tundra Biome, which came to Iceborne with Update 12.01. The first spot is here in Area 16. You will find the Maulis between the pile of bones and the wall.
The second location in the Tundra Biome is in the corridor from Area 17 down towards the exit of the biome. You will find the fluffy creatures in front of the lightning bug.
Pets and trophies – A dream for collectors
What rewards are there? On one hand, you will naturally get the Maulis as pets for your own space. Once you have caught the first one, you will receive an extra display with tubes for the little graves. They always change their position in it.
For catching the little moles, you also receive various trophies. On one hand, “Skilled Digger” for a common Mauli. On the other, “Creatures of the Earth” for your first rare catch. Furthermore, the chance is high for Maulis to drop a crown for native life.
