Last night, a new event started in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. In the crossover with “Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds”, you can obtain Aloy’s weapon.
With Iceborne, Monster Hunter World received a frosty expansion. How fitting that the snowy weather is also the center of the add-on from “Horizon Zero Dawn”. In “The Frozen Wilds”, you dive into a new adventure as the heroine Aloy. And now you can grab a weapon in Monster Hunter World from this.
Aloy’s “Storm Flinger Prototype”
During this period, the crossover is running: The event with “Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds” started on the night of November 21 to 22. The event runs until January 9, 2020.
In December 2019, the second part of the event will be released. An exact date for the beginning and end is not yet known.
You need this item for the weapon: As is customary in the crossovers in Monster Hunter World, you can collect small notes. This time they are called “Banuk Warrior Symbol” and help you get a light bowgun and a pendant for your weapon.
These materials are also required: The bowgun can be obtained as usual at the blacksmith. To be able to craft Aloy’s weapon, you will need the following materials:
- 3x Banuk Warrior Symbol
- 4x Zinogre Fatal Shock
- 1x Zinogre Hardhorn
- 2x Zinogre Hardclaw
This is what the “Storm Flinger Prototype” can do: Aloy’s weapon from “The Frozen Wilds” deals 390 damage. It also looks incredibly stylish and offers you the following stats:
- One slot for level 4 decorations
- Three possible upgrades
- 0% affinity
- Rapid fire on Normal I and Shotgun I ammunition
- High capacity for Thunder ammunition
This is how the new weapon performs: Despite the high damage and the large slot for decorations, the light bowgun is not that strong. This is mainly due to the limited options for your ammunition.
However, you should not write off the weapon just yet. According to the Iceborne roadmap, the event will continue in December 2019 with “Part 2”. Then you will be able to improve your “Storm Flinger Prototype” again.
What else can be obtained at the event: In addition to the new bowgun, there is also a pendant for your weapon again. These trinkets can also be crafted at the blacksmith. It is called “Focus” and has a glowing effect.
Tips and tricks for the event quest
This quest awaits you: If you want to secure the “Storm Flinger Prototype”, you need to complete the mission “Into the Icy Wilderness”. In this, you must defeat a Zinogre in the Frostfang Wilderness.
You only need Master Rank 24, which you reach by completing your story in Iceborne. As usual, you can complete the mission alone or together with other players.
How to defeat Zinogre
This is what you should do before the fight: You will be undertaking this mission in the Frostfang Wilderness. So pack hot drinks or grab them from the box there. Alternatively, you can wear gear with “Cold Protection”, which makes you immune to the harsh temperatures.
Before your quest, you should, as usual, visit the canteen. Some dishes provide you with “Element Resistance High (L)”. This gives you 15 points to your defense against Thunder. Of course, there are also buffs for those who are more about attack.
Which weapon type you play is ultimately up to you and your preferences. However, Zinogre is particularly vulnerable to the Ice element. Hence, weapons of this type are recommended, for example, the Velkhana weapons.
Who is Zinogre, actually? Zinogre is a swift Fanged Wyvern and attacks you with Thunder. So, you should be prepared to dodge or block accordingly. Thunder resistance and a Thunder protection mantle are also advisable. Taking a closer look at the monster’s strengths and weaknesses can also be beneficial.
Additionally, you should always have Slinger ammunition ready and use your clutch claw regularly. This can inflict wounds on the opponent and deal strong attacks. However, caution is advised here. Especially when Zinogre is enraged, he does not appreciate your claw attacks that much.
What about an Aloy armor or deco armor?
Unfortunately, no further rewards have been confirmed yet. Whether we can expect an armor set or a deco armor in “Part 2” in December is also unknown. Those who were unable to obtain the rewards from the first collaboration with “Horizon Zero Dawn”, including deco armor, will have to wait for a return of the event.
