In Monster Hunter World, you will encounter cats everywhere in the wilderness that you can befriend. The most brutal among them are the Gajalaka, who will attack even the largest monsters without hesitation. Here you will learn how to win the friendship and the gadget of the Gajalaka, the mighty cats of Monster Hunter World.
Those who wander through the world of Monster Hunter World can encounter wild cat tribes everywhere. At first, you will only meet the Grymalkine, with whom you can befriend. For this, you will receive special tools for your own cat companion, the Palico. Additionally, the Grymalkine will help you on monster hunts, capable of tracking monsters for you.
Once you have leveled up to High Rank as a Hunter, new cats suddenly appear in the wilderness: the Gajalaka.
Gajalaka are highly aggressive and possess Miaulotow cocktails
My first encounter with a Gajalaka was one of the biggest shock moments I’ve ever had in Monster Hunter World. Just as I had freshly arrived at High Rank, I noticed these new, small, screeching beings.
My first natural reaction was to pull out the capture net and throw it at a Gajalaka’s head. In Monster Hunter World, you can actually catch monsters as pets. Big mistake! All of a sudden, I had a whole horde of screeching Gajalaka around me. I was shot at, got smacked, and fell unconscious – all of this took less than 5 seconds.
The Gajalaka are only knee-high but come with a wide range of poison, paralysis, sleep, and explosions! I had great respect for these little monsters. I was even more delighted when I found out that you can also befriend them.
The reward is the Palico gadget “Miaulotow Cocktail” and a small army of aggressive cats that sometimes attack monsters for you. Maybe they also attack the monsters just for fun. I’m not so sure about this yet.
Quest “Cultural Exchange: Gajalaka Language Research” brings the friendship of the Gajalaka
Once you have received all Palico gadgets from the Grymalkine, you will get a new quest. With this quest, you can get the “Miaulotow Cocktail” from the Gajalaka and win their friendship.
Where do I find the quest “Cultural Exchange: Gajalaka Language Research”?
You will receive the quest in Altera and need to talk to the Lynian researcher. He will assign you the task of searching for traces of the wild Gajalaka tribe. Just like with the Grimalkyne, you now need to look for traces and scribbles in the area.
Where do I find the scribbles of the Gajalaka and how many do I need?
To complete the quest, you need a total of 10 drawings of the Gajalaka. The scribbles appear in all areas in Monster Hunter World:
- Ancient Forest
- Wilds of the Tower
- Coral Highlands
- Valley of Decay
- Elder’s Home
When you are in one of the mentioned areas, open your mini-map and sort by “Show Small Monsters”. Now the locations where Gajalaka are located will be displayed to you. Generally, the scribbles are found near the cats.
The mini-map will also show you the Lynian researcher. You will often find the scribbles near him as well.
You have found 10 drawings: Continue in the Elder’s Home
Once you have found the 10 scribbles, you need to talk to the Lynian researcher in Astera again.
If you want to befriend the Gajalaka, you must go into the Gajalaka’s hideout:
- Start an expedition in the Elder’s Home
- Head to area 8
- Now head underground from the southernmost camp
- In the northeast, there is a tunnel that you must go through
- The researcher is at the end of the tunnel, right next to the entrance of a cave
The cave you found in the Valley of the Elders leads to the Gajalaka’s hideout. Once you enter the cave, you will find Gajalaka that mustn’t discover you. Otherwise, they will start attacking you and won’t allow you into their hideout.
Important note: You can only enter the hideout at night.
Tip for sneaking past: Bring a Ghillie Mantle with you to sneak past the Gajalaka, making it easier to get into their hideout.
Once you are in the hideout, a cutscene will start. From now on, you are friends with the Gajalaka and they will also help you in battle! But be careful, some of them will still attack you. Gajalaka are simply aggressive beasts.
At the cook’s, there is a Gajalaka armor for your Palico
What I didn’t know before creating this article and just came across: There is also Gajalaka armor for your Palico!
To get this, you just need to follow the quest line from the Palico chef. At some point, you will receive the quest to hunt 10 Gajalaka. As a reward, you will receive a ticket that unlocks the Gajalaka armor.
