Especially veterans are currently wishing for the special G-Rank – perhaps as DLC. What is the G-Rank about and will it really come to Monster Hunter World?
The Hunter Rank (HR) symbolizes your experience and skills as a hunter. The higher the rank, the more quests are available to you. Currently, Monster Hunter World offers the Low Rank and High Rank.
Once you unlock High Rank quests, you can take on the most challenging missions the game currently offers. These are available to you after you have completed the story. Here it is explained how you rank up to High Rank and what advantages it brings.
In some parts of the franchise, there was a G-Rank after the High Rank, and many veterans are currently wishing for it to return.
What is the G-Rank?
The G-Rank is simply an upgrade of the High Rank. This rank significantly increases the level of the monsters. The G-Rank currently offers the highest difficulty level in the “Monster Hunter” universe.
G-Rank monsters have more attack strength, more health, are physically larger, and have new move sets. Especially the added attacks contribute to a higher difficulty level. Typically, G-Rank monsters also allow less time between each individual attack. The cards are basically reshuffled.
To defeat the stronger monsters, there is again unique and stronger gear to farm for the G-Rank.
This is also the reason why veterans are eagerly waiting for the G-Rank for Monster Hunter World. It offers the highest challenge that has ever existed in the franchise. Grinding in the G-Rank and encountering the strongest monsters there is the true endgame for veterans.
While Capcom has assured to expand Monster Hunter World through updates and DLCs, there is currently no clear commitment to a G-Rank.
Capcom is still considering the G-Rank
In an interview with Siliconera the developers talked about the G-Rank. They said that they have not yet decided whether there will be a G-Rank. That is the current state of affairs.
They emphasized that they are considering how to keep Monster Hunter World interesting in the long term. They want to keep the current system fresh and add new monsters.
The G-Rank is therefore not entirely ruled out and could still come. However, there is no formal statement to this effect.
