There are a few simple tricks that will make catching a fluffy chicken significantly easier for you. Nevertheless, you will need some patience to get to the rare birds.
Phantom Birds sit on the monsters Aptonoths and Apceros – But only sometimes!
Fluffy chickens live in a special symbiosis with Aptonoths and Apceros. These peaceful vegetarians are herd animals and can quickly and easily provide hunters with meat.
Phantom Birds mostly spawn on the backs of these monsters and prefer to cuddle together with their kind here.
- You can find Aptonoths in the Ancient Forest (Area 1 on the map)
- You can find Apceros in the Wildspire Waste (Area 1 on the map)
The problem, however, is that the fluffy chickens are rarely found on the backs of the animals. Additionally, they are quite small and difficult to spot. In the picture, you can see how such a small fluffy pile sits on the back of an Aptonoth.
Use fast travel or the teleporter to find fluffy chickens faster
When finding fluffy chickens, you will be put to a true test of patience. The little birds have such a low spawn rate that you rarely encounter them. However, if you want to specifically search for the Phantom Birds, there is a trick.
Use a teleporter or fast travel to repeatedly return to area 1 of the Ancient Forest or Wildspire Waste. This gives you the chance for fluffy chickens to spawn upon repeated entry. The best way to start is to simply start an expedition because you are free there and can focus entirely on the chicken hunt.
- The teleporter is a tool you can craft. It summons a flying dragon that can take you to the next camp even during a battle. To craft it, you need smoke nuts and parashrooms.
- You can use fast travel by opening your map and clicking on a camp.
Tip for detecting fluffy chickens: When you approach a herd of Aptonoths or Apceros, listen for chirping! The birds are indeed quite audible if you pay close attention.
Definitely use the Ghillie Mantle to catch fluffy chickens! Phantom Birds are shy
If you manage to get a fluffy chicken in front of you, you must be very careful! The birds are shy and will fly away as soon as you get too close. This can be particularly frustrating if you have already spent a while tracking the animals. Fortunately, Monster Hunter World has a range of useful mantles that grant you special abilities.
The Ghillie Mantle makes you invisible for a while. You should definitely wear and activate it when you want to catch a fluffy chicken. Simply throw the mantle over you and get your net ready. Approach the fluffy chickens discreetly while wearing the Ghillie Mantle until the net icon lights up orange. If you throw your net now, the fluffy chicken will definitely end up in your net and the long search for it will have paid off.
