In several short trailers, Capcom presents the weapons with which we will hunt monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam and PS5. After we had our first look at the great sword, it was time for the heavy bowgun on August 6, 2024: And it packs a punch.
What kind of game is this? Monster Hunter Wilds is an action role-playing game developed by Capcom, where you embark on a hunt for increasingly larger and stronger monsters. The actual character progression takes place entirely through your equipment.
You can only upgrade your equipment with materials you find in the game world or receive from hunted monsters. Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be released in 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. However, you can already take a look at the available weapons, in this case, the heavy bowgun:
The heavy bowgun can do both ranged and melee
What can the heavy bowgun do? Its role remains fundamentally the same as in previous installments: It is primarily a ranged weapon that allows you to take down monsters from a great distance – however, you’re not completely helpless in melee combat.
Its clumsiness is offset by a shield that can protect against monster attacks and higher damage compared to the lighter variant. There’s also an auto-guard function that automatically blocks incoming attacks.
The heavy bowgun also features several firing modes and ammunition types. Therefore, the sound of machine gun fire is as much an option as slow single shots. In Ignition Mode, accumulated energy can be used for the special ammunition. This energy regenerates over time and with each successful hit, which with clever use could allow for some powerful combos.
Which weapons are back? Fans of Monster Hunter: World need not worry that their favorite weapon is missing – Monster Hunter Wilds will offer all 14 weapon types that were available in World from the start. These include:
- Great Sword
- Long Sword
- Sword and Shield
- Double Blades
- Spear
- Gunlance
- Switch Axe
- Energy Blade
- Hammer
- Hunting Horn
- Insect Glaive
- Bow
- Light Bowgun
- Heavy Bowgun
In another trailer, Capcom presented a new feature that aims to make combat more precise and that benefits all weapon types. This new Focus Mode reveals wounds on the monsters and is intended to help you deal maximum damage more easily.
