Monster Hunter Wilds: The best new monsters in the ranking

On February 28, 2025, it’s finally here and Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on home screens. Along with familiar monsters, entirely new foes will also make their debut. The most interesting ones have been ranked by MeinMMO for you.

So far, 11 out of the currently confirmed 17 large monsters are completely new. When selecting new and old monsters that make it into a Monster Hunter game, it’s particularly important to the developers that they fit the world of the respective part.

With Monster Hunter Wilds, the developers are pursuing a slightly different approach than in previous installments. This is apparently reflected in the new monsters – as some of them bring their very own flair with them.

We took a closer look at the new monsters and asked ourselves what makes them special and which ones stand out. Five of them stuck in our minds, either through their design or their abilities they possess. Or both.

Who is writing here? MeinMMO editor Alexander Schürlein has accumulated over 1,000 hours as a monster hunter. Over the years, he has taken on numerous titles on various consoles and prefers to go hunting with dual blades.

Rank 5 – Uth Duna

  • Type: Leviathan
  • Habitat: Crimson Forest

A new leviathan is making its way into the Crimson Forest with Uth Duna. With a design reminiscent of a rainbow fish, it may first appear beautiful, but doesn’t make it easy for its hunters. It uses its bodily fluids to form a veil over its body that protects it.

Its translucent fins store water, which leaks out when you attack them deliberately. Once you empty the water storage, Uth Duna retracts them. This makes it appear more like a pretty lizard. As is common for a leviathan, Uth Duna is very fast and found primarily in wet regions, from which it emerges in a flash to attack its hunters.

Rank 4 – Ajarakan

  • Type: Razor Tooth Beast
  • Habitat: Oil Spring Basin

At first glance, Ajarakan appears to be a mix between the monster Rajang and a Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball. The ape-like razor-tooth beast uses the spikes on its back like flints to create impressive explosions and fierce magma for its hunters.

Ajarakan is extremely aggressive. He is very strong and enjoys showcasing this at every opportunity by igniting himself and creating ground waves and explosions. While doing so, he not only challenges his pursuers to a fight but also enjoys tussling with other monsters, leading to exciting encounters.
