Until now, little was known about the mysterious monster of the “black flame” in Monster Hunter Wilds. Now it has been extensively introduced and is already leading to memes and excitement within the community.
Who is the “Black Flame”? Until now, very little was known about the Black Flame. In the fifth trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds, one could only gain about a 30-second glimpse. The true name was also a mystery.
Now IGN has released first gameplay footage of the new monster in an exclusive video, revealing the true name.
The “Black Flame” is Nu Udra. It is the first cephalopod monster in the series, bringing a new type of monster to the game. Although there have been monsters like Nakarkos or Yama Kurai that resembled an octopus, these belong to the Elder Dragons, making Nu Udra the first official representative of this type of monster.

What makes Nu Udra special? Nu Udra is classified among the Apex monsters and is native to the oil spring basin. Like a real octopus, Nu Udra also has 8 tentacles, 6 of which can be severed. If hunters succeed, they can even continue moving on the ground. Additionally, it can grab and squeeze its attackers with its tentacles.
Like a real cephalopod, Nu Udra has blue blood when injured. It can also squeeze through tight passages. Its very flexible and ever-changing body makes it difficult for hunters to find good attack points, likely making Nu Udra a greater challenge.
Its tentacles are lined with many sharp spines, which it eagerly drives into its tormentors. And as if that weren’t enough, the monster loves to ignite and hurl hot fireballs at hunters.

How is the monster received by fans? The community is already enthusiastic about the new monster. On Reddit, there are various threads where fans particularly exchange ideas about one topic: the tentacles of Nu Udra.
