Monster Hunter Wilds is supposed to be the new spin-off of the game series. In an interview with IGN, the developers talked about the game and how it compares to its predecessors. Wilds is supposed to be bigger and more extensive, but players are concerned about the coop.
Where did the information come from? IGN was able to talk with the developers of Capcom about their latest game at the Summer Game Fest. The main topics were the innovations of Monster Hunter Wilds, its size, and the beloved coop mode.
However, what really sparked conversations in the community was the coop mode of the hunter simulation. Already in its predecessor, Monster Hunter Worlds, players had to complete things like missions and cutscenes before they could go hunting with friends. This is said not to have changed, but the developers have implemented a new system that should facilitate cooperation.
Players are once again fearing a coop debacle
What did the developers say? In the interview and during the preview of the demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, it became clear that the maps of the individual areas are supposed to be twice as big as those of the predecessors. Additionally, loading screens are to be reduced. You are now allowed to switch areas without annoying waiting times and can immediately dive into the action. The hunters’ home base is also supposed to be located on the map.
Your Palico now also has a real voice that is supposed to warn you about things on the battlefield. According to Director Yuya Tokuda, the change was important because a lot happens in the battles and changes in the areas.
The coop is also said to have changed compared to MHW. According to Tokuda, you will be quickly grouped with your colleagues when you can start a quest. You will then be able to return seamlessly to the multiplayer gameplay, but there are sequences that must be experienced solo. Players are already worried that the developers have once again created a hindering coop experience.
What are players concerned about? The coop mode from Worlds is considered a favorite feature by players. Hunting colossal monsters with friends and emerging victorious is fun. However, in Monster Hunter, there is one thing that disrupts immersion, and that is missions and sequences that must be experienced solo. Players are also complaining about the recurring issue here on Reddit.
Reddit user Apollo779 states: “We had multiplayer cutscenes on the 3DS and also a few in Iceborne, where they only show the leader as the hunter. It’s so strange that they still have this problem.”
User MumrikDK also does not understand why this issue remains, even though the developers know how important coop is for the community: “Considering how cumbersome World was in this regard, it’s incredible to read that they didn’t completely redesign this aspect.”
It remains to be seen how cumbersome the coop mode in Wilds will actually be. The developers promise improvement, but players will likely still have to endure a process to play with their colleagues.
