For some side quests in Monster Hunter Wilds, you need to find and catch certain endemic creatures. One of them is the Dapperwing. What you need it for, where to find it, and how to catch it, you can read here.
What do I need the Dapperwing for? The side quest for this is given to you by the NPC Samin at the base camp of the Wind Plain. To complete the quest “Samin’s Research Report”, you need to catch a Dapperwing. To get the quest, you must first have completed “Dareel’s Research Report”.

Best location to find a Dapperwing
Dapperwings are at home in the Crimson Forest. You can most easily find Dapperwings in Area 6:

They usually sit on branches and can sometimes be easily overlooked due to their green color:
How do I catch the Dapperwing? Once you spot a Dapperwing, you need to equip your capturing net, aim, and the bird will land in your net unless you scare it away first. Sometimes the birds also fly around, so you may need to have some patience or catch them in the air.
Tip: They are more colorful during abundance
What can I do if I have trouble finding the bird? If you have trouble spotting the Dapperwing, you can also set the season to “Abundance”, because then their colors are brighter and more conspicuous.
How do I set the environment to “Abundance”? You can adjust this either in your tent or at your grill using the “Rest” function. For this, you need to invest 300 Guild Points.
