After a long wait, there are finally updates for the PC players among the Monster Hunter fans. The free demo of Monster Hunter Rise has now been released on Steam. MeinMMO reveals what’s included.
What is Monster Hunter Rise? This is the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series. The series primarily consists of action RPGs in which you take on the role of a hunter.
- You start as a complete novice, hunting increasingly dangerous monsters and getting better and better.
- At the same time, you craft better equipment from the materials of these monsters and become an elite hunter.
- Monster Hunter is known for its huge selection of detailed monsters, sophisticated gameplay, and its detailed worlds.
- Recently, the series made its definitive breakthrough in the West with Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.
In contrast to Monster Hunter World, which was released for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018 and is now also available on Xbox Series and PS5, Rise has so far only been released for the Nintendo Switch.
It was confirmed early on that the exclusivity for the Nintendo platform is only temporary and a PC version is set to be released in 2022. Now there is a demo version of Monster Hunter Rise on Steam, and it even offers multiplayer.
When does the demo start? It has been available on Steam since October 13. (via steampowered.com)
How much storage space does the demo need? You need about 10 GB of free hard drive space. The download is 6.7 GB in size.
We’ll show you what to expect. Before that, you can check out PC gameplay of Monster Hunter Rise here:

Monster Hunter Rise changes the old formula with Wyvern Riding and Silkbugs
With Monster Hunter Rise, Silkbugs and Wyvern Riding were introduced. They change the core gameplay of the series and bring new options.
What are Silkbugs? With these bugs, you are more agile than ever before. They function like grappling hooks, except you don’t need a specific point to pull yourself to. Thanks to the bugs, you can simply hold yourself in mid-air and swing around.
In addition, new moves allow you to dodge or introduce new attack patterns. These so-called Switch Skills can be unlocked and swapped, giving you additional move sets for your weapons.
What is Wyvern Riding? Instead of the previous mount attacks, where you could cling to the back of monsters and throw them, you can now ride them using Silkbugs.
If you land enough hits with Silkbug attacks, you can ride the monster at the right moment and even use it as a weapon against other monsters. Here’s how it looks in the video:
