Director Paul Anderson of “Resident Evil” will direct the upcoming “Monster Hunter” film. It will be a hero story featuring mystical creatures and breathtaking landscapes.
In January 2017, the last Resident Evil film “The Final Chapter” will be released. However, this will not be the end of the collaboration between the game developer Capcom and director Paul Anderson. Anderson has already written the first draft of the script for the “Monster Hunter” saga. The “Monster Hunter” film will have a production budget of about 50 million dollars and is expected to be a profitable project for all parties involved.
“What I love about Monster Hunter is that a breathtaking, beautiful, expansive world has been created,” explains Anderson. “It is on the same level as Star Wars when it comes to world-building. There are no main characters in the game. It’s a bit like Resident Evil, where we also had to bring our own characters and story into the world. I think that’s a good reason for us to do it just like we did with Resident Evil.”
From Failure to the Mystical Hero Who Saves the World from Monsters
Take an ordinary man from our everyday world, who goes through the grind of everyday life: He has a dead-end job, is not getting ahead in life, and feels like an absolute failure. Suddenly, this man’s world is turned upside down. He discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. Now he must embark on a journey to an unknown, mystical world to train as a Monster Hunter before the creatures of this world destroy our world. This is how Anderson describes the currently planned plot of the film.
The principle is that all the monsters known from mythology actually exist. They were all once real to us. For every monster, there was a hero who fought it. Suddenly, the monsters disappeared overnight. They ceased to exist, just like the need for heroes. They became the myths and legends we know today. One day, however, the monsters will return. Unless a hero stands in their way.
It is still unknown which actors will fill the roles. However, it is already known that the filming location will be in China or South Africa. Monster Hunter will be a multi-part series. Monster Hunter is also available as an MMO, but currently, “Monster Hunter Online” can only be played in Asia. However, fans are not giving up hope for a port.
