On the PTR of Overwatch , Moira received a seemingly inconspicuous buff. Many players considered it too strong and criticized the decision. Blizzard has now decided to revert the change.
What was this buff? With the PTR patch from July 18, 2018, Moira’s ability “Fade” was reworked. The healer could now use the ability even when she was stunned or under similar effects.
A patch that also brought some changes to the new hero Sigma removed this buff again. Moira can no longer use her Fade while stunned.
How strong was Moira
What was the problem? With the new buff, Moira could suddenly escape many dangerous situations that would have cost her life before. Moira could free herself from many abilities that would have meant her death, such as:
- Ana’s sleep dart
- McCree’s flashbang
- Junkrat’s trap
- Ultimates like Reinhardt’s Earthshatter
This led to Moira players becoming significantly more aggressive. They sought fights with opponents they would otherwise have lost and killed them quite effortlessly, or fled when it was no longer possible.
What was the purpose of the buff? According to the developers, the buff was actually intended to reflect Moira’s ” evasive nature”. It should be clearer that she is a difficult target to hit, who can free herself well.
The idea was that she could also help her team when everyone was trapped in Reinhardt’s Earthshatter. She should then free herself and keep her team from dying.
This is how players are reacting to the buff: However, the result was players making something even stronger out of an already strong Moira. Complaints arose in the form of memes, such as on Twitter, where one user shows with a video how “ridiculously strong” the buff is:
Moira players themselves were pleased with the short buff. However, when it became known that the buff would be reverted, disappointment set in. Some players complained that Blizzard only listens to “crying McCree players”, and they find it ridiculous that this buff is being reverted, while McCree remains strong.
Another change, meanwhile, receives greater approval:
