Activision is hosting a tournament in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare with a prize pool of 250,000 dollars. However, there are hardly any CoD pros on the guest list, but rather Fortnite or Overwatch players. Some professionals expressed their disappointment.
Many see the strength of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in its competitive multiplayer mode, and a lot of players organize themselves into clans that regularly host clan wars or larger tournaments.
On January 24, 2020, a Call of Duty League will even kick off in the USA, touring through several cities and hosting 5vs5 competitions. In Germany, you can participate in the official Activision competitions through “Major League Gaming”.
A tournament with a high prize pool is now causing trouble among the CoD pro gamers, as hardly any Call of Duty players were invited.
Streamer Invitational Tournament invites hardly any CoD streamers
Why is there trouble now? The competition is running under the name “Streamer Invitational” and starts tonight, Wednesday, December 11, at 1 AM our time. A total of 20 streamers will compete in 4 teams for 250,000 dollars.
The participant list shows only a few players and content creators who actively engage with Modern Warfare, while the prize pool is quite substantial for such a competition.
Missing such a significant tournament can be quite disappointing for some professionals.
Is it all just about the money? Not entirely. The tournament is also running through the “CoD Partners” network, which many Call of Duty content creators would love to be a part of.
Members of the network have the chance for invitations to special events or can try out the next Call of Duty long before anyone else.
Many well-known streamers and pros have been waiting in vain for an invitation.
Some Call of Duty pros react dismissively
What do you think about the excitement? Do you think it would have been better to invite more CoD players to the high-stakes event?
How do the pro gamers react to this? Some respond with sarcasm, while others are genuinely upset.
“FaZe Pamaj” tweets “Disrespectful to watch players who have given up this game for another and are now being paid to play it.” Pamaj claims to have streamed over 250 hours of CoD in the last 30 days and believes he deserved the invitation.
Matthew Piper, better known as “FormaL”, mocks: “They didn’t invite T2P because they know we would dominate everything.” His teammate “scump” completely agrees: “Facts”.
Participant list features Fortnite, Overwatch, and Apex Legends
Who was invited and why? Several well-known English streamers with different backgrounds have been invited. There are a few Fortnite players, but also Overwatch or Apex Legends are represented.
- Team 1
- Vivid, Vader, Hutch, AvaGG, and TeePee
- Team 2
- Aydan, LuluLuvely, Mizkif, Valkia, and CrReam
- Team 3
- Hitch, Seagull, AdmiralBahroo, ShivFPS, and Spaceboy
- Team 4
- Symfunhy, AceU, LordKebun, JoblessGarrett, and Stodeh
The streamer “Mizkif” even brings gaming content only irregularly. The good mix appeals to many different gaming groups.
The team from Call of Duty wants to allow the game to attract new viewers and players. Therefore, CoD outsiders are often partnered.
How can you become a CoD pro gamer? If you think you are good enough, check out “Major League Gaming”. Find a team or play 1 vs.1 modes and test your skills.
The better you get, the higher you rank and you will face tougher opponents. If you are good enough, you can also participate in tournaments that even offer some prize money.
