The first trailer for the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is online. MeinMMO editor Maik is already not interested.
For a long time, it was unclear whether Call of Duty would take a break after 17 years. No new premium CoD 2023 – the news spread worldwide in February 2022. It was said back then that only a major DLC with new content for Modern Warfare 2, the CoD from 2022, would be released.
It is now clear: Modern Warfare 3 is coming this year on November 10 as a standalone game.
A direct continuation of last year’s setting? Such a thing hasn’t happened in a long time, only in the early days when the CoDs still had numbers.
After the trailer, I think: More than a DLC for CoD MW2 we still won’t get. Because in the nearly 2 minutes, there’s nothing new to see: An old enemy and recycled content. But see for yourself:
What is the problem? These things that Call of Duty shows for MW3 are exactly the things I was already looking forward to for CoD MW2.
The villain Makarov was seen at the end of the MW2 campaign. Before that, the developers said that they would continue the campaign story in Warzone and with the Raids. For me, that meant: Makarov in action: the worst villain of the series is on the rise.
Moreover, it was already a given during the times of Warzone 1 that the map “Verdansk” would eventually return. Many players demanded the return with Warzone 2, but instead, we got the unloved Al Mazrah. So far, it is only confirmed that the map will come to Warzone: Mobile.
Now the trailer suddenly shows the contents that should have arrived at CoD MW2 and Warzone long ago: Makarov and Verdansk.
Additionally, the first glimpse into the gameplay is not fun either because it apparently relies again on the well-known mission patterns:
- Panic in a busy area
- Vertical mission
- Diving
- Night mission after crash
The trailer only missed a sniper mission. Maybe we’ve seen that after all: The scene with the silenced weapon at night looked very suspicious.
The more information there is, the more I believe we are actually only getting a DLC from MW2. This way, the skins from MW2 can be brought into MW3 and if the leaks are to be believed, the multiplayer is supposed to include many map remakes. More recycling hardly seems possible.
Over the years, I have learned not to take Call of Duty too seriously and to recognize it as a nice shooter for in-between. But even for me, it’s noticeable what the franchise has done over the past years with its awful things.
Maybe I wouldn’t be quite so pessimistic if the current generation were a bit better. But with Warzone and Modern Warfare, Pay2Win is becoming an increasingly bigger issue. They have definitely lost one fan because of that.
