The well-known controller modder SuperLouis64 has managed to play Final Fantasy XIV with the Nintendo Ring Fit controller, even though the MMORPG is not available for the Switch. He has crossed the entire continent of Aldenard “on foot” in a stream.
This is SuperLouis64: The YouTuber and Twitch streamer has made it his hobby to control various games with highly unusual controllers. Often, the games are not designed to use his controllers, or his “input devices” are not even actual controllers.
SuperLouis64’s repertoire includes:
- The Duel Disc from Yu-Gi-Oh!
- Bananas (via YouTube)
- Bongos from Donkey Kong (via YouTube)
The modder uses a USB converter and software that translates controller input to keyboard input. For those tricky cases when the respective game is not available on PC (or his controllers are actually bananas), he writes the script himself.
Some time ago, the modder started a new project. He wanted to play the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and he succeeded.
In the first tests on Twitter, the modder showed how he can trigger an AoE ability while squatting as a Dark Knight or make his character jump.
Louis emphasized to the colleagues at Gamesradar that the game itself was not modified. That would also be against the terms of service of FFXIV. Instead, it responds to the button input from Ring Fit.
This is how he plays FFXIV with the Ring Fit controller: In a charity stream, SuperLouis64 demonstrated how well his modification of the controller works.
He aims to cross the entire continent of Aldenard and must jog in order to operate Ring Fit. Because without jogging, the character does not move.
The start of his journey was in the Happy Halder. From there, he crossed the Dravanian Forelands, western Coerthas, and made his way to Gridania, Thanalan, and then Limsa Lominsa.

Louis manages to cross the continent in just over an hour. As a little bonus, he then makes his way to Ala Mhigo and reaches the city in about 25 minutes.
You can quickly see that the Ring Fit control in Final Fantasy XIV is quite exhausting. During his journey, the modder sweats a lot; it is therefore rather unlikely that he will soon tackle Ex-Primals with the Ring Fit controller and complete raids.
But hey, who knows, he has already mastered Dark Souls with bananas.
