The online role-playing game Rift offers a lot of content and housing along with a simple but fun marriage system. Since patch 1.7, you can get married to whoever you want, regardless of gender and race.
Rift – Simple or Elaborate Wedding Ceremony?
If you want to get married in Rift, you basically just need a potential partner and some money. For a piece of platinum, you get a marriage contract that you apply to your potential partner. Then just an “/Kiss-Emote” and you’re done!
But if you don’t want a shabby lightning marriage, you can throw in another five platinum for the full wedding package. For your money, you get your own instance with an altar and a priest who will conduct a ceremony. You can also invite guests and raid the buffet afterward. Additionally, you’ll receive rings and wedding gifts.
Rift – Wedding Record and Divorce
In Rift, they even married so eagerly that the game set the Guinness World Record on Valentine’s Day 2012 for the most MMO marriages in a day, with 21,879 weddings taking place within 24 hours.
Additionally, it’s good to know that unlike in many MMOs, marriage in Rift is not taken so seriously. You can dissolve your bond at any time if you pay 20 gold or simply transfer to another server. What happens on the old server stays on the old server!
