We would like to introduce you to four MMORPGs that play similarly to the classic World of Warcraft, but still differ from it in some aspects.

Each of the presented titles has its own characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. We have compiled a ranking of the games as we believe they could appeal to WoW fans.
Rank 4: RIFT
The Free2Play MMORPG RIFT aimed to follow in the footsteps of World of Warcraft and is even set in the same genre, namely fantasy. RIFT is one of the more successful representatives of the MMORPGs that have followed in WoW’s wake. While other online games were inspired by Blizzard’s genre king, most failed. However, RIFT has held its ground until today.
Like WoW, RIFT puts the quests in the foreground, which you can solve together with friends. Group play is important. In the numerous zones of the somewhat darker game world, you fight against hordes of monsters and try to acquire better gear. You can level your hero up to level 70 and take on extremely powerful bosses. The world is in the midst of an invasion by horrific beings from another dimension.
Rifts keep appearing, leading to massive battles where you must try to push back enemies and close the rift. The numerous features of RIFT guarantee MMO players a full experience. The flexible class system stands out. The diverse specializations allow for myriad different playstyles.
Similar to WoW, RIFT features large raids for groups of up to 20 players. PvP also plays a role. In the open world, you can challenge other players, participate in conquests, or compete against others in the Warfront mode.
Note: While RIFT is an MMORPG that is heavily inspired by WoW, many players view this title with suspicion—especially recently. Technical issues, unbalanced gameplay with every new expansion, and above all the item shop have upset some fans. And with the sale of Trion to gamigo, there seems to be further evidence that it won’t last much longer.
Conclusion: Rift is a solid Free2Play alternative to WoW with some strengths, such as in its classes or complexity, that have, however, seen their best days behind them.
