The fair E3 2018 is just around the corner. What news can fans of online role-playing games expect? The MMORPG highlights will probably be information about the Xbox One port of Black Desert, two new DLCs for The Elder Scrolls Online, and possibly information about the new MMORPG “New World” .
E3 again this year not a fair for MMORPGs: For the last few years, MMORPG fans had to endure at the E3 fair. While friends of online shooters and action games feasted on the thick Sacher cakes, there was only a crumb left for MMORPG fans from the table of the big players. 2018 will likely be no different. But there will be a little something to feast on in 2018.
The Elder Scrolls Online presents 2 new DLCs
Two smaller DLCs: As Zenimax announced, at E3 2018, they will present two DLCs for the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online. Both DLCs are expected to be released in 2018. After players have just started to explore the new chapter “Summerset”, nothing huge should be expected. It is quite likely that one DLC will focus on dungeons and the other will bring a new zone, perhaps also fresh features.
How likely is that? That is certain. Zenimax announced this in a post to the fans regarding the release of Summerset.
When will it happen? At the Bethesda press conference. On June 11 at 3:30 AM before sunrise. In previous years, it was a short segment where Matt Firor talks about how well everything is going, and then there were trailers.
Black Desert Online – Release date for Xbox One … maybe?
1 year nothing happened: In 2017 at E3 Black Desert announced that it would launch exclusively on Xbox One. But since then, nothing has happened. There is no date for a beta, no launch date, everything is dormant. In March a teaser page went live – but then nothing happened. Xbox players have been waiting for a year for more information and want to finally play the beautiful MMORPG. It is quite possible that plans got mixed up – in hindsight, it was actually nonsense to announce the Xbox port last year when nothing would come.
What about Black Desert for PS4? Black Desert will also come to PS4, but there is still no information about it. It has to run smoothly on Xbox One first.
Black Desert could be released in summer for Xbox One: One can assume that Black Desert will finally get a schedule at E3 and the release date for Xbox One will be announced. It should happen relatively soon. It will probably take place in summer 2018.
How likely is that? So-so. One can generally assume that, but it has not been specifically announced. It is only said that developer Pearl Abyss is planning an evening with “surprises, exclusive insights, and a hands-on experience of Black Desert on Xbox One” at the fair. But that is not until June 13. Then they could let people play the Xbox One version if it has been announced beforehand.
When will this happen? If there are updates about Black Desert on Xbox One, which we assume, it will be at the Microsoft press conference. Sunday at 10 PM.
New World – Maybe a new MMORPG from Amazon
The reveal is still missing: New World is a MMORPG from Amazon that has had several leaks, but the big reveal is still missing. It could now happen at E3 with a small fireworks display. New World takes place during the colonization of America by Europeans but with a strong mystery element. We still know little about the game, but we assume it will be an MMORPG that is very “Twitch” oriented. The streaming service Twitch belongs to Amazon, and their engine “Lumberyard” is very Twitch-friendly: Something is going to happen.
How likely is that? In May selected individuals were invited to Amazon for testing, but nothing has been heard since. It is quite likely that something will happen at E3 now. But it doesn’t have to be.
When will this happen? It is hard to say.
What MMORPG announcements and presentations are still pending?
Not very likely: There are a number of MMORPGs that are expected to have an announcement or a major presentation. However, it is very unlikely to see anything on E3 2018. Such announcements are usually seen at smaller game fairs, the PAX.
- Crowfall – something should come regarding the release, but the developers are more likely to go to a PAX
- Ashes of Creation – they are also more likely to plan for a PAX if they have something big – they can be expected to do something
- Blade & Soul for PS4 and Xbox One – the release is due, but it is unlikely they will make a big announcement
- Project TL from Korea – they will probably take longer – NCSoft has little to do with E3
- A:IR – the airship MMO from Korea – it is also difficult to imagine that at E3
- Something related to Everquest – DayBreak is likely planning a game with the “Everquest” brand, but the MMORPG elements might end up being only lightly present.
- Magic, the MMORPG – Cryptic Games is working on this, but it is still early
