There is finally news about the “Magic: The Gathering” MMORPG that Cryptic Studios (Neverwinter) is working on – more than a year after the announcement of the game!
Magic as MMO?
What is the MMO about Magic: The Gathering? In June 2017, Cryptic Studios and Perfect World announced to develop a new MMORPG. This is set in the universe of the popular card game Magic: The Gathering. Except that it is being worked on and it uses the Free2Play model, we only know that the title focuses on the characters, the story, and the world and not on the cards.
Silence from the developers: After the announcement, there was silence around the online game. Fans had already wondered if it was still in development. Apparently, the title was announced very early, which is why it is now taking so long to learn more about it.

Here is what’s new: In a job listing, Cryptic Studios is looking for a “Character Artist”. This person is expected to collaborate with designers and other artists on the team to create interesting characters. These will then be transferred to the game as 3D models.
The job listing states that the new hire should ideally have a passion for Magic: The Gathering. This is a pretty good indication that Cryptic Studios is currently looking for someone to work on the MMO for Magic. The online game is still in development.
