Wild Terra 2, the new sandbox MMORPG, has launched on Steam. However, the reviews leave much to be desired. We take a look at the situation.
What is Wild Terra 2? The sandbox MMORPG is the sequel to Wild Terra and places you in a fantasy world where crafting, housing, and player freedom are at the center. It’s not about following an epic story through quests.
Survival elements are also important. You basically start with nothing and must build equipment and a first shelter from collected resources. If you encounter other players, it is possible to team up with them or to fight them in PvP.
Together, you can even found entire cities. The game is played from an isometric perspective. You see your hero similarly to how you would in hack and slash games from a diagonal view. Thus, you also fight in action-packed battles against monsters lurking in the wilderness.
It’s also important to eat, and to eat a balanced and varied diet. A one-sided diet consisting only of meat, for example, does not lead to good stamina regeneration. You can also grow food yourself, for example, in wheat fields. It is even possible to grow food on a larger scale and supply other players with it. Wild Terra 2 thus reminds one of the classic Ultima Online.
Players are not so enthusiastic about Wild Terra 2
When did the game launch? Wild Terra 2 launched on January 28 through Steam into early access. You can buy it for 29.99 Euros and then play right away.
How is the MMORPG received? The ratings currently stand at 60% and “Mixed” based on 58 votes so far. Players complain that there is not enough content, that the server performance leaves much to be desired, and that PvE content is too heavily influenced by PvP. One must constantly expect to be attacked by other players while trying to complete PvE content.
However, it must be considered that Wild Terra 2 is still in early access and is being constantly expanded. Here we summarize a few voices from the community for you:
- TWiZTED writes (via Steam): “I tried it, and 5 hours flew by. Amazing game, considering it’s still in early access. Very addictive. 100% for old-school gamers. Today’s kids could neither handle nor appreciate this game. 9/10 so far. Absolutely recommended.”
- Fer says (via Steam): “The game is a lot of fun. However, there are currently some server issues on EU1. But if you’re reading this, the developers have probably already fixed them.”
- Apple is not so enthusiastic (via Steam): “I cannot recommend the game at all. I understand it is in early access, but there is almost nothing to do except build a base. PvP is poorly balanced and feels clunky.”
- Tibsum writes the following criticism (via Steam): “It has a solid crafting system, and progress feels rewarding. But PvP is terribly unbalanced and very shallow, the controls feel quite imprecise, and the devs pushed the launch despite a duping exploit!”
There are also reports of a duping exploit where items can be duplicated. The developers definitely need to address this issue.
