En Masse Entertainment, the US publisher of the MMORPG Tera has released a new developer video for the console version of the online game. Does this mean it will soon be available on Xbox One and PS4?
The console version of Tera has been discussed for a long time and was actually supposed to start a beta last year. However, that did not happen, and the testing phase is only planned for early 2018. Now, En Masse Entertainment has released a new video in which Senior Project Manager “Denommenator” talks about the console version.
Console version has been discussed since 2013
A version of the MMORPG for consoles has been under discussion since 2013. After all, the game has felt from the very beginning as if it could be controlled very well with a controller. This is partly due to the action-packed combat system, which is almost made for consoles.
Therefore, thoughts about such a version arose early on. However, no concrete plans were developed because the PS3 and Xbox 360 simply did not have enough hardware power at that time. This changed with the current generation, the PS4 and the Xbox One.
However, even then, implementation was not easy, as MMOs on console are not particularly popular in Korea and it was not easy for the Korean development studio Bluehole to assemble a team for such a version.
It took quite a while for the project to gain momentum, also because they wanted to focus first on the free-to-play version of Tera. When MMORPGs became increasingly popular on consoles in 2015, a console version of Tera became relevant again.
Development since 2016 – Release planned for the first half of 2018
Microsoft showed interest in seeing Tera on the Xbox One at the end of 2015, which led to the development of this version starting in 2016. A version for PS4 is also currently in the works. However, there are no new hints in the video about when we can expect the release of the console version of Tera.
However, the description of the video states that the release of Tera is planned for the first half of 2018.
