At the end of June, the developers will shut down the MMORPG TERA after more than 10 years. To conclude the story, they are introducing a final quest into the game. However, you cannot play this; you can only watch.
Korean players were lucky: they could actually play TERA’s final quest, while the rest of the world has to watch. The official Youtube account of the game has uploaded a video that you can watch here:
An NPC addresses a crowd of characters in the video and says to them in English: “You are the shield that defended Arborea. Still, we must part ways. Your courage, your willpower… we will never forget you.”
What kind of game is TERA? In TERA, which is short for “The Exiled Realm of Aborea,” you can complete quests and defeat enemies. For this, you choose from 13 different classes for your hero.
The MMORPG offers a variety of dungeons and an action-packed combat system. In battle, you must continually stay on the move and block or dodge attacks.
TERA closes, even though the game was not doing particularly poorly
The closure of TERA came as a surprise to many fans. The last major update came in February 2022 and introduced new dungeons while revamping old ones. A new season pass also started. Regular events were held in TERA as well.
Why is TERA closing anyway? In April, the western publisher Gameforge announced that the developer Bluehole would not be producing new content. Therefore, they felt compelled to shut down the western version of the game as well.
While TERA was no longer among the largest MMORPGs, it was doing significantly better than other games in this genre. The Steam version, which was released in 2017, recorded several hundreds of concurrent players until the end.
