RuneScape launched its so-called fresh start worlds on September 26, 2022. Players are supposed to start from scratch and rediscover the MMORPG together. Afterward, characters can be continued on the regular servers. However, there were massive problems.
On the new servers, players start with XP boosts, special buffs, and cool rewards in RuneScape. You can also earn alternative skill capes. Players are to start on completely fresh servers that impress with a new economy and a large marketplace.
Those who want to play on the fresh start world must create an account specifically for that and purchase a membership. The character can be transferred to the main game at any time along with progress and rewards. However, there is no going back to the fresh start world afterwards.
Here’s the problem: Players who log into the new servers suddenly find themselves back in the main game. The account along with the purchased membership is lost in most cases because transferring back to the fresh start world is not possible. There were also initial problems in RuneScape with a graphic update.
Developer Jagex then took both types of servers, the new ones and the main game servers, offline to fix the issues. A rollback is taking place.
It is currently unclear how much progress players will lose. It is equally unclear whether and how they will be compensated.
Players disappointed and hoping for refunds
In a post on reddit, user DisperseRS warned on the afternoon of September 26 against logging into the fresh start worlds. He was affected by the problem, had found himself directly in the main game, and lost his package that he had purchased for several months.

- Federation_RS: “I hope I haven’t wasted my membership because of this. I bought 2 accounts for it.”
We still do not know how the developers will react to the problem and whether players will get their money back. However, given the uproar, it seems quite likely. Of course, we will keep you updated on upcoming information.
