Fans of the MMORPG Rift have reason to be happy, as Community Manager Zyra has stated that the MMORPG has a future. However, it won’t include major expansions like it has in the past.
Why should Rift not have a future? Since Trion Worlds was acquired by gamigo, it has been quiet about the MMORPG Rift. Players have wondered about new updates and expansions. Essentially, nothing has been announced except for the Season Pass. Therefore, some believed that the future looked bleak for the online role-playing game.
New Content is Coming!
What has been announced now? Community Manager Zyra has come forward with good news. Rift will continue to receive content. However, in a slightly different form.
- The MMORPG will no longer receive a major add-on every 1.5 years so that players do not have to wait so long for new content.
- Instead, smaller updates with content are expected to be released at shorter intervals. This includes new dungeons, raids, quests, and more.
What do the plans for the future look like exactly? There is even already a glimpse of what players can expect.
Short-term plans are:
- Call-to-Action Event: Unicornalia
- Seasonal events like the summer festival
- Call to Action will take place every two weeks from now on
- Reduced costs for the “Planar Fragment” system
In the long term, players can expect the following:
- A revision of the daily calendar
- Battle Pass Season 2
- Optimization of the “Planar Fragment” system
- Revision of the “Critical Chance” for Planar Fragments
The Community Wants Something Different
How are players reacting to the announcement? Since the acquisition of Trion by gamigo and the reduction of servers as well as the shutdown of classic worlds, the mood in the official forum has become very tense. Accordingly, the community is divided over the announcement.
For many, some of the content comes far too late, and new dungeons are considered pointless. Seasonal events are not seen as major innovations, as such things are simply part of an MMORPG. Moreover, it is criticized that everything is just vague announcements, without real explanations and no timeline for when to expect the content.
Skiye writes in the forum: “This was really disappointing. The entire Rift community is waiting for balance optimizations and endgame content. And this is being ignored.”
Others, however, are happy that something is happening with Rift and that at least some new content is coming.
