Gamigo announced a merger of the EU servers of the MMORPG Rift. However, this leaves many questions unanswered, which dampens the mood in the community.
What has Gamigo announced? On June 5, the European servers of Rift will be merged. In the end, there will only be one cluster with the following worlds:
- Brutwacht (German) (PVE)
- Brisesol (French) (PVE)
- Typhiria (English) (PVE)
- Cahail (Hidden – Used for balancing dungeons, raids, and warfronts.)
These servers will disappear: Bloodiron (PVP), Zaviel, Gelidra & Refuge will merge with Typhiria (PVE).

A move with open questions
Why is this merger taking place? According to the new operator of Rift, Gamigo, server performance and efficiency are to be improved.
What about PvP? There is no longer a population to justify a separate open-world PvP server. Therefore, there will be no such world in the future.
What questions remain unanswered? Gamigo basically only announced the server merger, but this has larger implications for the players. The community has some questions about the merger:
- What about players who have the same name? Who has to rename their character?
- What if players have more characters than character slots after the transfer? Since 50% of the EU servers are being closed, many could face major issues.
- Do guild banks need to be emptied before the move?
- What about emails?
- Is it an automated transfer?
- What about guilds that have the same name?

Players are slowly getting annoyed
How are players reacting? Moving to a new server is generally problematic, as players may have to come up with new names for their characters and essentially lose their virtual “home”.
What is the biggest issue? Especially those who have a lot of characters on individual servers fear losing some of them due to the merger. The number of character slots is limited, and about half of the worlds will be closed. Some heroes could be left behind.
This is currently upsetting the community: However, the move itself is not the main problem. Because if it has to happen, then so be it. But the large number of unanswered questions and the lack of responses so far are leading to a poor mood in the community.
- Ambrodel writes in the official forum: “And as usual, the announcements lack the important information to understand the upcoming process.”
- Islesi says: “The answers to these questions literally determine whether I leave the game or not, because I have invested a lot of time in my characters and do not want to lose them.”
- But there are also soothing voices, such as Holyroller12: “It won’t happen before June 5, so there is enough time to answer the questions.”
Therefore, there is another problem: The move alone is not currently the only issue. Recently, a switch to the
“Google Cloud Platform” technology took place. Since then, Rift players have been complaining about poor performance, lags, and disconnects in Europe.
Rift fans are wondering when there will finally be improvements. Will the move bring better performance? Will things worsen further if more players are active on fewer worlds? There are currently no answers from Gamigo regarding this.
The fans of Rift feel somewhat abandoned at the moment. Generally, there is very little happening in the MMORPG. The last major announcements – the Battle Pass and now the move – have left out important information.
