Gameplay restrictions such as gender lock are quite unpopular among Western MMORPG fans. But what about race-specific restrictions on class choices? Let us know in this survey.
Gender lock is a feature that many MMORPG players in the West view with indifference at best and total disdain at worst. It often appears in Asian MMORPGs and restricts gender class choices. For example, in Lost Ark, only women can take on the role of mage.
However, gender lock is not the only restriction on class selection. In MMORPGs like Blade & Soul and especially World of Warcraft, not all races can learn the same classes.
- In B&S, for example, only the Lyn can become Astromancers.
- In WoW, only the new race of Dracthyr can use the new class of Caller.
Most of the time, these restrictions have reasons rooted in the lore and story of the games. Yet, although they are similar to gender lock in gameplay, they don’t seem to meet with as much disdain, or do they?
