The player Iron Hyger set a crazy record on December 2nd. He is the first player to max out all skills in Old School RuneScape – but not in normal mode, instead as an Ironman, which brings many restrictions. He needed almost 40,000 play hours for this achievement, or about 14 hours a day.
What exactly did Iron Hyger achieve? He has maxed every skill that exists in the game. These skills include Attack and Defence, as well as Cooking, Mining, or Fishing. The tasks are therefore diverse.
In total, there are 23 disciplines where he had to collect 200 million experience points each. This means that he needed a total of 4.6 billion XP.
This challenge is already very difficult under normal conditions, yet Iron Hyger accomplished it in Ironman mode. This mode means that you are quite on your own and brings several restrictions, including:
- No trading with other players
- No experience points from PvP
- No rewards from certain group activities
- No entering houses other than your own
- No rewards for killing a mob or another player if even 1 damage point was caused by another player
At the time of the achievement, the second-place player dids had collected 4.15 billion experience points, which is already extremely strong. However, the gap to 3rd place is significantly larger.
He spent 12 hours a day on sometimes exhausting tasks
How impressive is the achievement? In the RuneScape community, there is consensus: The achievement is totally insane. In the comments, some users confirm that Iron Hyger has played for almost 40,000 hours.
The Ironman was introduced only on October 13, 2014, and about 71,280 hours have passed since then until the record. Moreover, the player started only just under a year after the introduction. Basically, this means that Iron Hyger has played around 15 hours a day for 7 years.
On reddit, players emphasize that the tasks were sometimes grindy but also exhausting. He is said to have farmed with incredibly high speed and efficiency. While classic RuneScape players can buy many items for crafting from other players, Iron Hyger had to obtain everything on his own.
Not only other players congratulated him on this achievement, but also the developers themselves (via Imgur). They wrote in an in-game message: “Congratulations, Iron Hyger. You are the first Iron player to achieve 200m in every skill. Now you can finally play the game!”
However, there is also criticism. Some believe that one should not put 15 hours a day into a video game or joke that he now has time to finally play through the real world.
What lies ahead for the player? After his achievement, Iron Hyger wrote a message in the chat: “What now?” This is a legitimate question, after all, RuneScape has determined his life for many years. However, it is unlikely that he will now quit the MMORPG.
What do you think of this achievement? Is it impressive, or is the criticism justified?
Just in November, we reported on a player in RuneScape who celebrated a significant achievement and then fainted:
