On September 13, 2022, the free MMORPG Mist Legacy left Early Access on Steam. In the last 30 days, it has received almost exclusively positive reviews.
Mist Legacy was released as a beta version on October 5, 2021. The developers, Virtys, are a small indie team from Canada. From the beginning, it was clear to them that they did not want to stay in Early Access forever: “We never planned to stay in EA forever,” Virtys writes in an announcement on Steam.
Huge changes do not come with the end of Early Access. The main story continues, the world map gets bigger and offers new resources and challenges. A completely new zone is also planned, but is currently not playable.
Mist Legacy focuses on RPG
What kind of game is this? Mist Legacy puts the RPG of MMORPG at the forefront and is, in many respects, a classic role-playing game that reminds of Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop RPGs. You play from a top-down perspective, looking down at your character.
Your character does not belong to a fixed class, so you can develop it freely in any direction you like. The developers want to create endless possibilities to entertain players.
However, it is not an MMORPG like Lost Ark or Black Desert, which takes you by the hand and guides you through the game world. Much you will have to figure out and explore yourself. For some players, this counts as a real insider tip.
With a strong focus on RPG and the ability to take NPCs instead of players into your battles, Mist Legacy suits solo players exceptionally well.

- The strength of your character is based on the skills you use.
- Turn-based battles where you can play with friends as well as NPCs
- Various PvE content such as dungeons and bosses
- No climbing or jumping

- An interesting crafting system where you can basically craft anything from anything and there are no pre-made crafting recipes for items.
Still, there is something that bothers players
Although the last reviews from the last month are 81% and the overall ratings are 74% positive, players have also criticized Mist Legacy.
Like many Free2Play titles, Mist Legacy also offers an in-game shop where you can buy items for real money. With the items offered, you can save wait time and purchase experience bonuses, for example. Some fans have a problem with this and label the MMORPG as “Pay2Win.”
