The MMORPG New World (Steam) has closed almost three-quarters of its servers. From 485 servers, it is down to 135. The head of the game, Scot Lane, looks optimistically towards the future and says they are very satisfied with the current player participation. He expects great things ahead.
This is the situation:
- The MMORPG New World was bursting at the seams upon its release in September 2021 on Steam. The rush was huge. The servers could only hold relatively few players, estimated at around 2000 – thus the few servers at launch quickly filled up. Players complained about the endless time they had to spend in the waiting queue.
- In the first days after release, Amazon constantly launched new servers, especially in Germany, where the demand for new servers was huge. By October, New World suddenly had 45 servers recommended for German players.
- However, after a few weeks, the player count decreased drastically. There wasn’t much to do in the MMORPG. Now players complained they were stuck on “dead” servers and could no longer enjoy the MMORPG. Soon came the large server consolidation.
How many servers are left in New World? Of the 485 servers, only 135 remain. Most of them are in Europe:
- Europe – 61 servers (previously 203)
- North America (East) – 38 servers (previously 158)
- North America (West) – 14 servers (previously 49)
- South America – 9 servers (previously 35)
- Australia – 12 servers (previously 40)
How the German servers of New World were consolidated, we show you in a separate article.
New World focuses on endgame and new rewards
What’s next for New World? In a message to the community from last night it says:
- Players would like another server transfer – New World is still working on a persistent bug
- The situation with the servers will be monitored and reevaluated in 2022
A few days ago, head developer Scot Lane gave a preview for 2022
- Currently, they are satisfied with player participation and are pleased with how many hours players spend with New World per session
- They are looking forward to the future and will focus primarily on bringing new content for the endgame, which will also include new rewards. They will take more time to get the balance right
