In January 2020, the MMORPG Neverwinter receives a new expansion, Infernal Descent, for PC and later for PS4 and Xbox One. This addon for Neverwinter is particularly interesting if you are looking forward to the RPG Baldur’s Gate 3.
Which expansion is coming? Crytic Studios has announced Infernal Descent. The expansion kicks off a new story that takes you to the first layer of the Nine Hells.
A Taste of Baldur’s Gate 3
How is this related to Baldur’s Gate 3? Infernal Descent makes the successful pen & paper module Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus playable for D&D.
This module tells what happened between Baldur’s Gate 2 and 3 and how the city has changed during that time.
It serves as a prequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 and sets up the scenario for the new adventure of Larian Studios. In Neverwinter, you will experience this backstory in MMORPG form with Infernal Descent.
What exactly is the story? The Vallenhas estate and its surrounding area are suddenly teleported to Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells. You must find out what exactly happened, travel to Avernus, and try to bring the estate back.
Of course, there is much more behind all of this. Something that plunges the entire fantasy world of Faerûn into chaos and also affects the city of Baldur’s Gate.
You will be drawn into the Blood War, the eternal conflict between demons and devils, and embark on a great quest to the Nine Hells with Paladin Alric Vallenhas and Bard Etrien Sael.
Into Hell!
When does the adventure release? The release of Infernal Descent is planned for January 21, 2020, on PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Neverwinter will receive the expansion somewhat later.
What is included in the expansion? The story is told through several quests. You will also enter a new endgame dungeon designed for players level 80 and above.
Additionally, a new large adventure zone awaits you at the Vallenhas estate.

For three weeks, you will fight in a devilish arena in the lower planes against the hordes of Hell. You will collect glyphs that grant you additional powers and bonuses. From week to week, you will face increasingly difficult challenges to become one of the last survivors and thus the champions of the Hell Pit. They receive valuable rewards.
When is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming out? The long-awaited sequel to the RPG series currently has no release date. However, you will again visit the city of Baldur’s Gate, around 100 years after the second part. The story seems to be linked to the mysterious mind flayers that already played a role in the Neverwinter expansion Uprising.
