On May 10, the first part of the “Slay your way to Elgacia” update arrives in Lost Ark, bringing not only some changes but also a popular and powerful new class to the West: the Slayer. We explain why you shouldn’t get too excited too early.
What does the update bring? Besides the new class, May mainly involves “Quality of Life” updates. Included is the new Ebony Cube, which replaces and combines the existing mechanics of Boss Frenzy and Cube.
You can also expect nice little details. The two gun classes, Deadeye and Gunslinger, can now not only switch through their arsenal of weapons but also sheathe them. This is meant to contribute to immersion and is indeed well received by the community.
The knowledge transfer system will also be improved. It will be made easier for you to push new characters through the story for little gold and bring them directly to level 50.
What is the highlight in May? However, the highlight of the patch is clearly the new class. With the Slayer, the penultimate new class comes to the West. Our version is then only one class behind Korea.
The Slayer is a female version of the Berserker, making her the first feminine warrior class. She wields a greatsword in battle and focuses more on specialization than on crit and swiftness, unlike the Madness Berserker.

Why is the class the highlight? The Slayer ranks very high on the tier lists regarding both PvE and PvP. She has enormous burst potential, and her damage per second is massive. With the right gear, she can deal over a billion damage at once, overshadowing most other classes (via YouTube).
Moreover, the greatsword is considered a popular weapon in the community, as there are many attractive skins for the weapon and the so-called “Glow” is correspondingly large and eye-catching. “Glow” refers to the increasingly powerful glow of the weapon, which grows as you improve the weapon.
What else can tempt you: Furthermore, with the release of the Slayer, a new progression event also starts. You will receive a Power Pass that pushes you to Gearscore 1,340 this time. This one is also for players who have not yet played a character that far. The only requirement is that your account has been active since December 2022.
From 1,340, you can then start the new event, which helps you reach item level 1,460. For this, there are materials provided, improved chances for upgrading, and many useful items as well as 4 free, time-limited engravings.
The new class will not stay that strong
Why you shouldn’t get too excited: The class is so incredibly strong that fans in Korea are already expecting a nerf, meaning a weakening of the Slayer. Currently, a patch for the Korean servers is announced for May 12, shortly after the release of the class for us (via reddit).
So far, there are no patch notes yet, but most experts agree: A nerf of the Slayer is inevitable. Even if it doesn’t happen right now, the Slayer probably won’t be able to maintain her enormous performance.
However, since the class is coming to us with the May patch on May 10, it most likely does not include the weakening yet. You are therefore in great danger of playing a class that might lose significantly in power and damage with the next update.
As with any new class, you will probably also have to spend a lot of gold on the Slayer to obtain good gear shortly after release. So think carefully about whether it’s really worth it for you.
