In the first week of the new year, there were few major news items, but some small announcements and innovations. The big highlight was the new trailer for Throne and Liberty, which is set to be released in 2023.
The highlights of the week:
- WoW is currently in the big “nerf phase.” First, 8 dungeons from Season 1 of Dragonflight were nerfed. Now, on January 4, a further nerf for the Court of Stars has been implemented.

Lost Ark punishes new players, Warhammer receives new patch 9 years after shutdown
This is what happened with the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW, players discovered a secret island and a hidden boss. Additionally, the well-known Twitch streamer Asmongold made fun of a WoW advertisement.
- In Lost Ark, there was an adjustment whereby certain loot can only be opened once you reach a much higher gear level. This is intended to weaken bots, but it primarily affects new players, according to our author Mark Sellner.
- ESO had a difficult year in 2022. Our author Melli takes a look back and explains where the problems were.
- On January 10, FFXIV will receive the first update of the new year. But how will 2023 unfold? Irina Moritz took a closer look at this.
- On January 10, Guild Wars 2 will celebrate the annual Lunar New Year Festival (via GW2).
- A new update was released for Black Desert, which introduced the first season for the new PvP arenas.
This is what happened with the minor MMORPGs:

- Embers Adrift has received a new open-world dungeon (via Embers).
This is what happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Blue Protocol shared details about the crafting system. The MMORPG is set to be released in the second half of 2023.
- With ArcheAge War, a new MMORPG will be released for the franchise in 2023, and it has now been introduced in more detail.
- Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen will conduct its first pre-alpha test at the end of January. It will last 24 hours (via Twitter).
- Ethyrial: Echos of Yore shared new details about founder packs and the stress test in February (via Steam).
- Mad World is a new 2.5D MMORPG with interesting graphics. It is set to be released in 2023 and has now published a recap showcasing all the content added during the closed beta (via MadWorld).
