The MMORPG Blade & Soul receives a graphical overhaul and is being switched to Unreal Engine 4. New videos show how modern the game looks because of this.
What does the switch to the new engine bring? Blade & Soul was released in 2012 and has thus been around for nearly eight years. Back then, the MMORPG was launched with Unreal Engine 3. In the meantime, Unreal Engine 4 has already established itself and creates significantly more detailed and beautiful graphics on screens.
With a transition to the new engine, Blade & Soul aims to become more modern and beautiful. The conversion primarily affects lighting and shadow effects, water, reflections, and overall performance. However, it is important to the developers that the graphical style of the game remains as it was before.
Additionally, the engine switch could lead to renewed success, after last year did not go so well.
An Impressive Engine Switch
This is what the MMORPG looks like thanks to the new engine: Now several videos have been released that showcase the “new” Blade & Soul. It actually gives a more modern and beautiful impression. Thanks to the improved graphics, it looks as if it were a new game from 2020.
What is interesting about the videos? This time, there is indeed gameplay to see. So we witness Unreal Engine 4 in action. Additionally, one video showcases character creation, which clearly shows how the new engine affects the game characters.
Therefore, there are no rendered scenes or edited materials. You see Blade & Soul as it really looks with the new engine.
Players Are Excited
How are players reacting to the new graphics? For the most part, the revamped look of the MMORPG is quite well received.
- drkmgic is excited as commented under one of the videos: “Omg, I need a better computer!!”
- SathonaBNS agrees: “It already looks much better.”
- Googlebonkers, on the other hand, writes: “It’s lagging like hell. One would first have to see the 12-person raids.”
What problems are still visible? The game looks significantly better now, but as some players have already noticed, performance is still lacking. Some lag can be observed in the videos. However, the switch to the new engine should actually lead to improved performance. The team behind Blade & Soul still has some optimization work to do.
When is the update coming? In Korea, the next phase of the upgrade to Unreal Engine 4 starts on February 26 with the major Frontier Update. When we will get our turn is still unknown.
What do you think of the new graphics from Blade & Soul? Do you find them better than before?
